Im new to asking questions but here goes. I have an 03 Libby, this eve I was in part time for a while in thru a some snow covered roads, and when I pushed the lever back to 2WD the lever went back to the normal position, and I could tell I was in 2WD but the "part time" indicator on my dash was still lit. Im looking to see what the fix is to get the part time light to go off. Has anyone else had this problem? Any fixes or ideas to help? Bob 03kjsport |

it is only the switch sensor in the shifter area, all it does is light up when in 4wd. Mine did the same thing awhile ago. at 1st while in 4wd the light will light up. then after a while it would go out. once I put it back into 2wd the light would light up, and then when i put it back into 4wd the light would go out. Some how my jeep became polish like me....LOL There is no mechanical prolems, it is only a switch going bad. I just disconnected mine because it was anoying. You can tell when your in 4wd or not. |

I had the same problem discussed here. The problem has never recurred, although I wouldn't be suprised if it did. It doesn't seem to be anything to worry about. |

Yep, switch is on the top side of the t-case on the drivers side just inboard of where the front driveshaft comes out. I'll bet taking it out, cleaning, it and putting some lithium grease on it would solve the problem if it persits. Most likely just frozen or something, though. I seem to remember that going into one of the computer modules, so it might be worth fixing (other than just being an optical annoyance). Behavior of engine control curves may be slightly different if the computer thinks the t-case is in another mode from what it is. |

Thanks for the info, thru my Haynes manual, in section 7C-3 I found it called the Eectronic transfer case position sensor. After a few calls to some local retailers I found that none carry this part. I called my friendly neighborhood Jeep dealer and they will gladly fix this issue for $85.00. Im going to do some more looking to see if I can't get my hands on a replacement part. Again thanks for all the replies. |

It's funny, but I experienced today the same problem that IAMBOB experienced. I have a 2003 Liberty. Was in 4WD high and when taking it out, could not get the "part-time" light to go off when I put the vehicle back into 2wd. I'd be interested to know whether you replaced the switch and if so, did that take care of the problem? I fiddled around with the lever for the next 30 minutes on back roads, going into 4lo, 4fulltime, 4 parttime, 2wd, etc back and forth as I drove around and FINALLY the darn light went off. A little frustrating. Had the same thing happen about 6 months ago out of the blue also, but then no problems since then until today. Can you let us know what took care of it? Thanks |

same problem (just posted in electronic section). Had theproblem around a year or so. Just recently the light went out completely in all postions. Haven't got around to fixing it yet. Dealer wants $75 for the part. Doesn't seem to be causing any problems, so i'll leave it until I have lots of extra money. later, mike |

I am back, after reading the posts I received, I began trying out some of the solutions, I took some time & worked thru 2HI-4LO, and to try and work it out, and the light went out. I did find that when I went back to 2HI the light would go off when I made sure I pushed the lever fwd as far as it would go. Then a few days later it would come back on, so when that happens I just push the lever down ( while in 2WD) and the light does go back off. I am going to continue doing this in the future if it happens again. Then once I get out of the winter/ the rainy season here in Western PA. and I can take it apart & clean the switch this spring. I will post follow up after that. |
