I had no skid plates stock. I bought all the skids I now have from Rusty's, which is the T/C skid, E/T skid, and Gas Tank skid. I can easily say that they fit all of my needs and that unless I'm going to do something like Moab, I'm satisfied with them. No doubt having the strongest is a good thing, and those who wheel their KJ hard (difficult trails) will tell you that. But I don't plan on doing trails that difficult anytime soon. I've never encountered anything so far that I'd think would be able to bust through 3/16th of an inch steel and also bust up whatever's behind it on my KJ. But if I ever do go to Moab, Cali, or some of the harder trails here in Colorado, you're darn right I'll invest in some Boulder Bars and a Super Skid before I go.
It's all about how you wheel you're KJ, and how much you can actually spend on skids.[/b]

I wheel in the NE (which is to say not a lot of wheeling). I've got stock tank skid. I figured I was good. Well, I bent BOTH corners up into the tank last time out. I was backing up to go pull a Rubicon Unlimited (hehehe) out. Well, going backwards through deep mud and rocks, I backed in to a few boulders. Enough to prevent me from actually doing the rescue! (darn!)

Anyway, I've got to take that skid off and bend back. Since I have a hitch, I don't want to do this often. I might just go for the better skid.

Kilby for $219? hmmm. Still available for 18.5 gallon KJ?

(Moral of the story, leave the Rubicon's behind if they get stuck! )
