| Post subject: | SC Rockstar Front Bumper: '02-'04 KJs [MANY PICS ON PAGE 3] |
[NOTE: I don't make or sell these bumpers--JHCRASH (Jason) does. If you have any questions, please look at the first post in the original thread here, then PM Jason.] If this is the first time you've seen this thread, here are some background details: JHCRASH (Jason) announced on November 26, 2007, that he would be making a new front bumper for '05-'07 model KJs, and he posted some pictures of a completed bumper. A few posts later, he mentioned that he needed a "guinea pig" to fit an older ('02-'04) model KJ, and I volunteered. (Yeah, twist my arm!) This thread was created to show off Jason's bumper design and allow open discussion. See Sundance Customs Offroad Website for more pics and ordering information. Details Price: $900. $650 introductory price until February 1, 2008. Lights not included. Your actual price may be higher or lower, depending on options that you choose. For example, the price will be lower if you don't want the stinger. Add $75 for paint. Powder coating may also be available (price TBD). Weight as pictured below ('05-'07 model with stinger): 120 lbs. The '02-'04 model will be about the same, but you may save 5-10 pounds without the stinger. ![]()
Highlights:
I can attest from personal experience that Jason does great work, and I think he's going to run a very honest, responsive business. |

Here are a couple more I took with my crappy phone camera on Saturday. If we get it installed this weekend, I'll take some good pictures with a real camera.

Jason's better qualified to answer those questions, but here's what I do know: WoodysKJ wrote: I am wondering if the "Pod" where the turn signal is could not be fabbed as a Bolt on item so that the basic body of the bumper could be used on a 05-07. Have the Pod as an option for 02-04 and the void in the grille. I think Jason plans to weld the "pods" onto the basic bumper, but a bolt-on option is interesting. WoodysKJ wrote: I was just wonderin. I am not sure if there is ANY difference in the actual mounting of all the 02-07's. It is my uneducated impression that the cosmetic grille and fenders are the only difference. The mounts for the bumper are almost the same for the '02-'04 as for the '05-'07. Jason is using the same mount, but he may have had to drill the holes in a slightly different spot. But the basic bumper is exactly the same. WoodysKJ wrote: A cool bumper that addresses that WITHOUT having to cut anything plastic would do well i think.
I don't think there would be much interest in a bumper that doesn't require any cutting on an '02-'04 KJ, because one of the major objectives is to improve approach angle, and the stock fenders are a real problem. That's why I cut my bumper and fenders before I did Golden Spike last year--I didn't want to be grinding away the fenders on the rocks. Cutting the fenders and getting them just right is a real pain, though. Probably the most time-consuming and nerve-wracking part of installing any aftermarket bumper on an '02-'04 KJ. The good news for '05-'07 KJ owners, though, is that Jason has reworked the bumper for those models so that no cutting is required. (Lucky!) |

Fulltimer wrote: That thing is looking good! I like how it doesn't stick way out. Good approach angle.
To be honest, you'll get a much better approach angle with Rock Lizard's front bumpers, but this bumper certainly is a big improvement over stock. And, as I mentioned in an earlier post, I like not having to relocate the washer bottle. And there are some aesthetic qualities (integrated fog lights, incorporation of stock turn signals) that make it stand out from the rest. I've really enjoyed watching Jason work on this thing. I was a little surprised to learn how much of what he does is artistry vs. technical. The complex angles he puts on the base bumper is very technical, but the accents that he adds and the "pods" for the turn signals are almost pure artistry. It's all very impressive. |

Here's JHCRASH's original post with pricing and a few of the pics of the '05-07 model bumper, for reference: JHCRASH wrote: Well its finally available,We are going to offer this bumper to the members of lost and maybe another forum for $650 until febuary 1st. It will then go up to $1000 so now is the time to buy guys. For that price the bumper will be raw if you want it painted it will be an additional $75 and i dont know a price on powder coat yet.WE are a custom shop so we will offer a few different options on this bumper for a lesser price just email us to discuss it. sundancecustoms@yahoo.com
The weight as it is in the pics is 120Lbs. We also have our own version of sliders and a rear bumper coming soon. Here are the pics.Sorry so blurry. This one is with the logo as a marker light ![]() ![]() This is a plug for the hitch when it is mounted in the reciever or we will offer jumper cables that plug into it as well ![]() This one just has an odd light on the stinger for illustration the other set of 510s wont be in till tomorrow ![]() These pics show the quality and finish that Jason puts into these bumpers. Hopefully we'll get mine installed this weekend and I can post completed shots. |

So he is going to incorporate openings for the stock fog lights? Sorry but I haven't been keeping up on the other thread, but if there are going to be spots for the stock fogs then this one might just be worth considering |

Corynn, I dont have my hand on a stock set to see the dimensions but i think they will fit in the hole for the after market ones. I will find a set and see. |

It looks like the '02-04 factory fogs would fit in these two areas:
If you need dimensions let me know and I'll pull one of my fogs and measure both it and the opening in the stock bumper. |

That is where the fog lights go the hole that will be there is 4 7/8" ID. the same as the bumper for the 05'-07' model if they fit in that hole then you are good to go. Maybe if troy still has one of his he can bring it and see if they would fit or just measure yours and see. |

Well i guess Troy wont have one then Ya just get me the measurements. And how do they mount? If you want the PIAA 510's that I have in the first bumper I get a pretty good deal on them. |

Nope, sorry. I'm pretty jazzed about the PIAAs, but I'm sure a lot of people would like to be able to use their stock fogs. Living in Utah I used them quite a bit when I had them, and I thought they worked great. |

Yes the 02'--04' is available set up the same way as the 05'-07' And as for a name I was thinking something along those lines maybe Crusher X or the 007 just because I plan on making another style as well. |
