Anybody ever put tire chains on your Liberty?
What kind, fitment, clearance, function?
I need a set and have been searching, but what a PIA.
Let's hear what you have to say.

Just my opinion but I think with a good set of tires, you don't need chains! I grew up driving a 2wd sedan in the snow (up hill both ways :lol: ) and never owned a pair of chains.

With that said I bought a pair of used chains on craigslist a few weeks ago to keep in the cargo area but I never plan to put them on. I bought them to keep the CHP (Cal Highway Patrol) off my back as they have silly laws here in CA. :twisted:

I looked at getting a set but couldn't find any in the right size around here so I gave up and got a lift/bigger tires. If you have ABS, make sure you get chains that won't interfere with the brake system. Not sure but, they might also affect ESP and/or TCS systems.

chains WILL help you a lot in snow, any one that says not hasnt run much in snow without chains, used to have to chain up just to get home every day. Night and day difference. Big debate on if you run front or rear or both, some run just on rear and one front to aid in steering if you have a locker in the front. When I ran 38s and 40s I used big truck tire chains and cut them to fit, worked great in 4/5 foot of snow and ideling along, higher RPMs just dig in in deeper....

Years ago I had a 1980 Toyota Celica GT Sporty type car in 1982 Denver had a horrendus blizzard right before Christmas. All you could see of the Toy was about an inch of roof line, So I dug it out backed it into the garage jacked it up and installed my chains an big rubber bands to tighten them up. Then went out adventuring, I had a blast I went down one stretch of road with lifted pick ups all over the place 4 wheel drive didn't mean 4 wheel stop. Anyway with the low ground clearance and chains it was like a 2 door snow mobile. Chain are great in any snow situation and help give you that 4 wheel stop stability. :twisted: :twisted:

I read somewhere that chains give you around 400% better traction then bare rubber. I know when I tried them I have never been stuck in mud, snow, ice or a mixture. :D Check out this site http://www.pewag.com/home.php?action=se ... anguage=en
