Post subject:  leaking front axle

I have a 2005 libery renegade, I just noticed a bit of fluid on my garage floor. After smelling and touching the fluid it is indeed Diff fluid. It looks like it is coming from just to the right of axle center (passenger side) Anyone out there know what im talking about or have any advice on repairing it? Also I will post a pic if someone will explain how to do it. Thank you

most likely just the seal in the front diff will need to pull the axle and replace it

What is the technical term for that seal, so I can start looking for parts?

Axle + seal = axle seal.

skill level......well you have to take off the wheel, brake caliper, remove spindle from the upper and lower control arms, pull the axle out...very carefully and then R&R the seal. it sits back in to the diff 3/4 inches so need a puller to get to it and put the new one in.

On a skill level from 0 to 5 I would say a two but then thats me so :?
Time involved if you have the tools and seal there ready, maybe an hour at most.

How many miles on it? Is it front or rear axel? You can probably get it taken care of at the dealership under the 7/70 drivetrain warrantee.

Is it coming from where the drive shaft connects to the axel? If so, it is the pinion seal. I had one go on my front axel about a month after lifting it and tires (245/75r16s). The dealship didn't even question it. I had about 50K miles on it. I had to pay a $100 deductable and the rest was covered.

47000 miles, leaking front axle, not comming from the pinnion seal, its where the half shaft connects to the axle tube on the passenger side. I cant actually see the leak, due to the bracket around that area.
