I am looking at getting a used KJ. I owned an 04 2wd until about a year ago. I want another one now.

I was wondering if the Renegade 4wd models are built any beefier than the others? For instance, larger stronger axels, skid plates, etc.

Thanks for the help!

I'm pretty sure the axels are the same, but they do come with mopar skid plates and hollowed out rock rails (dent quite nicely when slammed onto rocks) Other than the apperance i'm pretty sure that's all that is different.

A Renegade is pretty much the same thing.
The two things I like about it is you get a nice looking light bar with larger alternator. And “aggressive” looking fenders.

be careful because not all renegades came with the same options that you might consider to be the essence of a renegade. my dad has an 05 renegade that he bought used. it has rock rails, but no skids, and no lightbar. it does have the bumper mounted lights, "bolt on" flares, and the little silver part of the lower front bumper. dont know about the alternator.

im pretty sure that the renegades all came with the skid plates, if your dad's didnt have them than I would say the first owner took them off

Not all rennies come with skids, it is an option just like the lightbar. I do know that mine came with a better alternator because of the drain from the lightbar. There really is no difference between a rennie and the other models other than looks. Of course I love my flat hood and the different grill.

But that is only on the 05-06 models. same hood as all the rest on the 2002-2004's I think.

One other slight difference is that MOST of the Rene's came prewired for the roof light wiring harness, even if you didn't get the light bar as an option the harness plug was still inside the A pilar and the dash had the light on it instead of adding it.

Cool. I do not really need the lightbar. If I were to buy one it would have to be 06 or newer due to tax purposes for my job. (Sorry jasonk! :D ) So power wise and drivetrain they are the same with the exception of the upped alt that I could replace on any model if I wanted to. I like the look of them so if I come across an 06 I may get it. I have only found 05s at this point. Finding plenty of 07 limiteds and sports. Hmmmmm......... Guess I will keep looking til time to lay down the money.

I like the flat hood models. thats really the distinguishes the Renegade from the rest of the pack.
