Post subject:  Shock Replacement w/ Lift

Looking at putting in the the Rusty's 2.5" spacer lift this summer and need to know what my options are for replacement shocks front and rear. I'd like to go Rancho all around, but I'd like to have some adjustability in the rear for when I tow my tent trailer. Any suggestions? Part Numbers would be nice.

RSX17505-Front Strut
RSX17004-Rear Shock

Summit Racing has them both, I paid $85 each for the 17505 and also you get free s/h, but my rears are OME N132 that I got from Rustys off road for $40 each plus s/h

Rancho RSX 17004 Rear
Oh and I would REALLY THINK HARD about NOT running a Rustys spacer lift
get a set of air bags for the rear if you want some adjustability for the rear, of course I run OME heavy Dutys and pull a trailer a bunch with no problems

thats cool i was wondering that for a while.. for almost half the price of Ranchos thats a good deal, but i really like my Rancho 17004s they made the ride so much better. i cant wait to test them out on the trail.

The N132's are ment for the OME lift, about 1.5" of lift, they are not ment for the 2.5"+ lifts like the Rusty's and Frankinlift. They are only about .5" longer then the stock shocks.

The Rancho 17004's are for a unlifted Durango, they are about 3" longer then the stock KJ shocks and work great for the 2.5"+ lifts.

thanks man thats what i wanted to know.. i did how ever know they were for a durango. i got mine at Advanced auto and when i went in to order them and asked for them for a durango the guys questioned me as to why i was ordering them for my jeep.. i told him it was a Jeep thing he woulnt understand   .... actually i didnt i explianed it to him but im sure he still didnt get it  ... he really didnt think they would work  but they fit like a glove... this is also and easy mod to do only took about a half and hr.. its only 2 bolts top and bottom that are easy to get to. way better than what i did for the rest of the day. swapping a trany in a Land Rover isnt as much fun.

so are the ranchos only good for up to a 3" lift.

yes they are for 3" lift but i dont think the OME long travels are for more than 3 either though.. just what i have heard dont quote me on that. one thing i would like to point out is that i have a LIFETIME WARRANTY on my Ranchos since i bought them at Advanced Auto Parts.. this makes them way worth it to me if i mess on up i can just take it back to Advanced and swap it out for a new one.. you just cant beat that :D :!:

its not going to limit my lift, right? I have Ranchos for the front w/ 4 conduit nuts on each side w/ OME HD coils, and the OME shocks and OME HD rear w/ 1 upper isolater but will prolly end up going with 2 once I finish my rear bumper

wont limit ur lift.. it does limit ur flex though.. the travel might be limited my the lenght of the shock travel in ur case.. with a longer shock u could extend more thus keeping ur tire on the grownd and not up in the air with the shock at full extension. im not sure this will be a problem for u but try some flexing and see if this is holding u back.. u might be able to relocate ur lower shock mount instead of getting new shocks though.

here is a pic of the diff longer shocks make.. 1st pic is stock shocks 2nd pic is with RSX Rancho 17004s.. sorry i forgot my camera at the house when i took both of these pics so the smartphone pics will have to do...

the back tire is about an inch off the grownd in this pic. also note where the top of the tire is in relation with the bottom of the bumper.
Image

the back tire is flat on the grownd and the top of the tire is level or below the back bumper.. i couldnt even get the tire off the grownd (yet)

I'm switching to the OME long version. My ranchos are so hard they rattle everything on a nearly flat road, pretty noisy themselves as well.

really mine are pretty smooth but mine are only a few days old.. i like them to be a little firm especially on the trail but thats just me.. im sure the OMEs are better though but i have a Lifetime Warranty on my Ranchos from Advanced so all i have to do is bring them back in and swap them for new ones.. thats hard to beat since i wheel every week. and my shocks do not make any noise.
