Post subject:  Gas Mileage

I have a 06 KJ, I am interested in putting a 2.5" lift on it. For now I will keep the stock tires and wheels. What kind of gas mileage are most of you with lifts getting? Normal driving and the lead foot effect.

I am currently getting around 18mpg around town.

Thanks

Ouch; that's pretty bad.... Does Gas Mileage typically worsen with a lift kit?

Yes,and after bigger tires, and more armor(wieght).I usually get 9-10mpg's(all city driving) but can squeak 16-17 on the highway, back in SD I can average 20mpg's but it's all flat(east side) and better gas.

When I had the Frankenlift with stock tires I was getting 19-21. Note that I have a manual transmission. Now with 245/70/16 I am getting around 18 at best and feel less torque.

I can understand the reason for the weight and bigger tires reducing gas mileage, but why does lifting your vehicle say 2.5" reduce gas mileage?

From sitting higher you now have more "drag" on the vehicle going down the road.More drag=less mpg's.

I get 17-19 mpg on the highway in the winter, alittle higher in the summer. I have a 3" lift and 245/70/16 Yoko A/T's.

ill be putting my 245/74/16 MTs on this after noon. i hope it doesnt hurt my gas mileage to bad.. the lift hurt it more than the rack though that suprized me .. i bet the tires will be worse than both of them though

Frankenlift, skids, rack and stock wheels and tires I get around 16-17 if I drive normal. (which means lead foot and passing a lot of slow people). When I switch to the MTR/S it drops and I average 14-15ish. Add on the trailer and I get 10-11 with the MTR/S. All totally worth it to have the Jeep.

15-16 mpg combined city/highway. MT/Rs, steel wheels, 2.5-3.0 lift, lightbar, ski rack..... probably a dirty air filter...

With 31" tires and steel rims, a 5 speed and an engine with 90,000 miles that has never had a tune up, I got 15.5 on my last tank in 20-30 degree temps and mostly highway driving at 65mph.

I never really check mine since its a Jeep and what the heck have to spend money somewhere  but last weekend , ran the turnpike east across Ohio, ran around a couple of towns over there, visited Summit Racing (!!) played Ricky Racer with a couple of my friends with semis coming back and got 17.9 overall. Over averaged about 72/75, back averaged more like 80 or so
Gets way better in the summer than winter though

stock i got 19-22mpg depending on the driving conditions.. added the light bar and L.O.S.T. 1-2 mpg.. added the lift, full armor and 32's and now getting 15-16mpg.. however mine is a 6 speed.. and the flowmaster muffler and K&N cold air did improve mpg by roughly 2 mpg

With all my extra weight and 32's, I'm getting a whopping 10 mpg in the Winter, and 12 local and 14.5 hwy in the Summer.

My Ranger 4.0 4X4 on 245/75/16's avgs. 15.5 mpg local.

Have the lifted/bigger tired KJs adjusted the Odometer readings for the larger tires. Probably more than 6% off...just with 235/75/16s and more the larger you go. 15mpg becomes 16.1mpg with just a 6% change

Did the dealer do this for you? Sounds like a great way to trick the Fuel management system into giving better mileage! :)

Yes, had it reset to rev. per mi. by the dealer.
