| Post subject: | Skyjacker Plantinum Questions |
First Post, just bought a new 07 Sport 2 months ago, and now that I'm ready to spend some more money again I have a question about the Skyjacker Platinum 2.5" lift. I have the chance to buy just the front and rear coil over springs and front struts that are 2 years old from a friend for $150. I would need the extended bumpstops for the front and rear, and would like to replace the front struts and the rear shocks while I'm at it so I don't have to do it down the road. What are recommended replacement struts and shocks for this lift, that are not skyjacker, from reading the forum skyjackers tend to blow out. I would appreciate manufacture and model#. Also where is the best place to get the the extended bumpstops. Also would it be worth while to go this way, are would it just be better to get Rusty's lift for a little bit more. Thanks |

The SJ springs should work out just fine. If you ever get a ARB or the like they will sag though. OME is one of the best shocks you can get. Next best seems to be Rancho. All J's Custom has both of them. They will also have the extended bumpstops. http://www.boulderbars.com/index.htm |

Thanks for all the info, does any one have suggestions who has the best prices for the ranchos. Also from reading other posts they changed the soft ride springs at some time, when was this done, and are the older ones better or the newer ones. |

Quote: Also from reading other posts they changed the soft ride springs at some time, when was this done, and are the older ones better or the newer ones. After about the first couple of months of production they switched to softride coils due to to much lift from the non-softride coils and upper ball joint contact.I run the SkyJacker lift, the non-softride coils to,cured the contact between the UBJ's and coils by adding Al's UCA's.As far as using other front struts besides the SkyJacker one's you'll have to cut the coils since the SkyJacker lift uses only one coil isolator so the other end off the coil is flat and will not sit in a isolator.I switched to Rancho front struts and had to cut 3/4" off the coils, then added a spacer to make up the lost difference.
The softride coils will not hold a steel bumber and winch,I know.I had a strut come apart and SkyJacker sent me a whole new front lift,I put it on and my fender flares where sitting on my tires(I have the ARB bumber with WARN winch),had to put my old coils back on.45,000 miles on the non-softride coils and 30,000 of those with the ARB and winch on and have only lost about a 1/4" of lift, made it up with a clevis lift and have not lost anymore over the last 10,000 miles since.Oh and I'm netting 3 3/4" front lift and about 3" of rear lift from my SkyJacker coli lift. |

TJKJ may know when they changed he has one of the first sets that came out I think....Ranchos or OMEs either would work great, bump stops call AllJs or check out the thread about front bumpstops on here Sounds like a pretty good deal for that price, how many miles on them? |

Coils cannot effect Upper Ball joint contact. They can lift it so high that the suspension is bottomed out all the time, but the shocks limit the down travel which keeps the ball joint from hitting the spring. If you add to much clevis lift, use a daystar upper plate, or add a OTT spacer you can get UBJC no matter what spring or shock you use. |
