A couple oil changes ago (I do it myself) I noticed that there was fresh seepage coming from SOMEWHERE on my transfer case. Not the input or either of the outputs, and the fluid level was fine, so I cleaned it off and let it go. Sometimes new vehicles seep a little bit just 'cause, then it stops, so I let it go. I just changed my oil, the seepage was back, so I took 'er to the dealership and asked them to look at it. Turns out it needs a new shift seal, done under warranty of course, at 14K miles. Has this happened to anyone else?

I've done thousands of them between the NP218 t-case,Turbo 400 trannies, and Alison trannies. It happens, use the t-case much(4wd)? Keeping it in say full-time for long periods of time then shifting into 2wd all that crud collected on the shifter shaft and then pushed through the seal causing it to leak, possible.

I do use 4wd a lot, we have lots of snow and icy roads. Other than not using 4wd is there any remedy? Can you just reach up there above the transfer case and clean it off? Having this fixed at 14k miles though...that seems premature. And if say after my warranty is up and this happens again, is it that big of a deal? Will crap be getting inside my transfercase, or as long as the fluid level is good am I okay?

Driving on the road shouldnt get it to dirty under there. Just make sure to spray it off good if you get in alot of mud.

This doesnt seem to be a common thing since its the first Ive read about it happening on a KJ. Could of just been a bad seal.

I got my Jeep back today, they say the seal was torn. Must be a fluke.
