ok so i have some oil comming from my front diff right at the drive shaft. i fugure it is a seal but what is it called i just cant seem to remember and what is the part # on it? how big of a deal is it to change? im sure ill have to take the diff apart and maybe the pinion. if anyone can help me on this or give me some more details that would be great. i normaly try to fix things myself befor i let someone else do it and my warranty is way gone. this also happened after changing to royal purple. im not sure if it had anything to do with it but it might since ive heard bad things about there gear oil since ive put it in.

Pinon seal. Don't have the number offhand but I can look it up.

Edit: drive pinon seal, part #05066053AA. If that's what is leaking then I believe there is a how to either here or over on KJCountry on how to replace it. Since your KJ is higher mileage then it probably just wore out, I doubt the change to Royal Purple was enough by itself to cause it, but I've been wrong before.

No idea on the cost, but I put the part number in my post above so you can get online and check it out.

Doubt the royal purple had anything to do with the leak. (certainly hope not) This is just a perfect example of Murphys law, it never fails that things will go wrong at the worst times or shortly after you just spent time and money to repair or service your vehicle.

The big question is
Is it just wet or does it drip and how much?
just wet ,dont worry about it as most dana diff's do it
drips but just one drop after a long ride and the diff gets good and hot, also dont worry but make darn sure to check the oil in the diff at EVERY oil change and more if it get worse before you fix it but watch it closely
drips out a quarter size plus drop after evry time you drive it
replace the seal

get a pcs. of wood and place it under the jeep to see how much is dripping if at all

Yea, my front pinion seal has been leaking for over 6-7 months now. I just check it at every oil change. Ive never seen a drip and the level hasn't went down any, so Im not going to worry about it.

When the time comes Ill let the dealer do it under the power train warranty.
