Tire HELP!! QUICK PLEASE!!!!(pics added)

Ok so i got a set of 245/75/16s MTs used today. when i took them to put them on they came out and said they wouldnt fit.. i said no they should i want to see. and sure enough the tire was hitting the UCA and to mount for ball joint. i couldnt believe it :shock:

. i then explained how i was a member of this forum (LOST) and there were plenty of guys running this tire size and i didnt understand why this didnt work for me. my stock 235 tires u can just fit ur hand between them and that spot :?:

.. i do have a Rusty's lift but i havent had an alignment yet. so my question is why did this happen to me and so many other are able to run this tire? is there anything i can do to fix this?? the guys there told me to get wheels spacers but i would rather not ($$$) and another guy told me he had wheeled for years and u could get and extension for the UCA???? also they said the reason why everyone else could but i couldnt was because they had offset wheels.. i told them that people were doing with the stock wheel and they then said that mine we just different ( i have the 16" sport steels).. i am going back i the morning to see if the spacers will work so i need help on this fast cause i dont want to use them.. so any help is welcome please....

different backspacings would be my guess. I know the moabs are different than the stockers. I know some guys are runnning the 245/75s on stock, not sure if they have issues...but it looks like your options are spacers or new rims.

Not getting the alignment is most likely your problem, along with the remote possiblity that, your lower BJ's are bad and causing the tire to lean inwards at the top.

i guess it could be the ball joint but my tire does not apear to lean inward and they wear evenly.. and they also said that an alignment would not have anything to do with it .. they said all jeeps are different.. i think they believe i ont know anything about my jeep but they are wrong.. so has anyone else had this problem?? any other sugestions??? i would like to tell them what the problem is tomorrow and not leave it at "my Liberty is just different than all the rest" and what do people mean when they say to make sure to make everything back to factory specs?? what should be changed?? why would my jeep need spacers and others dont

oh and how hard is it to change ur lower ball joint? what tools are needed?? are the Falcon ball joints on jeepin by Als web site any good/ regreaseable.. it looks like there are and are the same as the Moogs.

ok so i got to thinking about this and they had the KJ on a Lift and the tires were hanging down at full drop. so could this be why they were hittng? would this happen on?off road?? and does anyone elses tires hit at full drop running 245s and a lift?? i really need help on this befor i go and blow money that i really dont have to spare tomorrow.. i was hopping some veterans would chime in on this... PLEASE!!!!

Ive never heard of this happening on the KJ. I know it happens on the WK's though.

Many people run that size on stock rims. Im sure they will chime in.

Been trying to fiqure this one out???? Does not make any sense at all. Did they bolt one completely on and drop it down with weight on it? Also an aligment would correct some of it I am sure, at least I know on mine the tops of the wheels were in some at the top. Never heard of this...

u know i dont remeber if they droped it all the way down or not. i was too busy arguing that these tires would fit on a Liberty. what actually changes the camber of ur tire? sorry i know thats a dumb question i should know. they told me though that an alignment was just with the tie rod. ive done plenty of buisness with this place so they wouldnt be looking for things to charge me for heck they said it didnt need an alignment. this has really blew my mind too i hope someone figures this out. ive been checking this post like mad to see if anyone has.

edit: i just checked to see if my stock tires were still close sitting on the grownd and they were. i could just barly put my finger in between it and the ball joint. is this right?? i seen a pic on here and they were close maybe but he has bigger tires on. here it is but kinda hard to see.

alos they said it was because the tire was square and not rounded.. i know that sounds dumb but there right the tires tread is fluss with the side wall. if this helps they are BigO Big Foot X/T s

So they are saying that the only thing you can adjust on the Liberty is toe? :roll:

They are wrong, as you can set the camber and caster by adjusting the lower control arms. When you lift the Liberty it pulls the top of the tire inward towards the body, so the camber has to be adjusted to bring the top of the tire back out. The tires you are getting are a squared off type of tread which would or could be some of the problem as well. Back to the alignment it may not seem like much but it will make some difference as to how close the tire sits to the UCA.

I'm going to follow this thread for sure!

I too have the standard 16" steel rims, not the funky looking alloys some people have. What you are saying to me is that I need to change either the setup of tyres that I want or get new rims, right?

I hope someone with some good information can come along and tell us what we will have to do to fit a 2" OME lift on our KJs and still be able to fit 245/75 R16 tyres on the standard steelies we got on our jeep.

get the alignment done first, you have to do that anyway sooner or later and see what happens. They couldn't tell you if the alignment was bad or not by looking at it and not putting it on the machine. When I installed my lift, I thought the alignment was great adn it drove straight but decided to get it done anyway and they guy told me it was pretty bad off.

It looks like those bigfoots have more of a trapezoidal profile than a lot of ATs out there (the middle of the sidewall sticks out much farther then the widest portion of the tread). I'm sure tire measuring techniques vary between companies. I'll bet they measured the tread and not the overall width.

Just go get an alignment first as it needs to be done anyway! The camber will then change at that point, and will allow better fitment of the tires.

A 245/75/16 has a Center Section width of roughly 9.8". I, as well as others run a 265/75/16 with a Center Section of 10.5" and they fit.

i ran 245/75 mt/r's on stock 16" rims.
never had any issue at all.

must be something wrong with the bj's or some other mechanical issue, cuz the tires should fit, no prob.

ok thanks everyone for the help im going now to get this resolved. i looked in to getting moog ball joints(witch i planed on doing anyways) I i found a shop that will check them for free(its to cold to do it myself today and im sick). the place thats putting the tires on also does alignments so i might just have that done today if i have enough moiney to spare(but i will in the NEAR future!) ill post a report when im back. pluss it snowed here todday so i want these tires on!!!

ok so the tires are ON!!! i did have a bad lower ball joint on the drivers side.it wasnt poping just had some slight play.. i didnt get it fixed today though i plan to get moogs tomorrow and put them in myself (they wanted $75 to put them in). i also plan to get an alignment as soon as i get the ball joint replaced. they finally agreed that the alignment was the problem as well.. i used spacers to put the tires on for now. they gave me a really good deal on it all the spacers we free. so all is resloved and the jeep will be as good as new in the next few days.. thank u all for ur help and my jeep looks great with the new tires!!! oh and i have NO scrubbing either..

What kind of spacers did you use, some you really have to be careful with, but after the alignment you may not need them anyways. I think my local shop charged me like 15/20 bucks to pop out the old joint and put in the new. not too bad to do. Yes once you get that done and the alignment it will ride like a new one!! :wink:
