Post subject:  Seriously...last confirmation on my setup before ordering...

I have a 2005 KJ Renegade
Stock: 225/75R16 Wrangler ST

Plan:

OME Medium Springs (front and back), shocks and struts. Period. No Isolators, no conduit nuts.

Tires: BFG AT KO 245/75R16
or Pro Comp AT 245/75R16

1. Should I pound the pinch weld now before getting tires mounted and lift installed, or should I wait and see how the fit is?

Does anyone in an 05 Renegade have the exact same setup? Pics?

Thanks again.

I would do the pinch weld now, & heat up & push in the fog light door ( rubbing there also )...my.02

Ignore the Fog light door, Only in 02--04's. Hit the pinch weld though.

You may have to trim the plastic splash guard right in front of the tires but you may not. Either way it won't be near as much of an issue as the pinch weld.

Do the pinch weld before, cause you will have to do it anyways, you will get some rubbing in the front as well so be prepared to heat/bent/ cut

Those springs alone probably tossed about 1.5 inches up on ya right? You can do the pinch welds, but there just barely going to touch so you could wait

I'm gonna say wait on the pinch weld. I have a franken lift and still haven't pounded the pinch welds; I don't rub there.

mmmmm, :? :? :? little bit of difference between a Frankenlift and just OME mediums coils. I know the Rustys you have to or it rubs, or at least the ones I have installed would of, the Frankenlift I installed it did not. My OME Heavy Dutys with a clevis I would not of had to but did just in case , so why not do it?? :?

i have the rustys and 245/75/16 mtr's and i dont have my pinch weld pounded down.... granted my may be a little bit smaller as there used but still have a lot of tread left. I dont know check and see if the tire place will do it if theres rubbing. Mine would have pounded it for me if i needed it.

I guess I'll contact the place putting the tires on and see if they'll do it. I just worry that they will cut it without me knowing....something that may or may not be bad down the road.

tpcosta: Nice! I really like your truck, I just really want the slightly larger tires. If the 235/75R16 (I know you have 70R16) came in as aggressive tread design as the tires available in the 245/75R16, I would just go with them.

I would assume a heat gun at most should take care of any front wheel well issues. I don't want to trim. Too much salt on the roads.

I ecko others. I am not sure you will need to pound the weld. 245/75 16's should do fine with out. You could use 245 70 16's and not rub. only a half inch difference in height.

Don't compromise the weld if you don't have to. BFH should ALWAYS be the last resort.

Also when you said "No Isolators" you meant No extra isolators, right?

You still need isolators for both the front and back. Just use the stock ones you already have or get stock ones from napa and the stealership. top and bottom for both front struts and top and bottom for both rear ons. Front isolator (stock) are the same ones, just get 4 from where ever.

Yep, I meant no EXTRA isolators. If I feel like I want a little more lift later, it's not too hard to add.

Well, What I'll do is talk to the tire guy first, and see if they can fit them on and if absolutely necessary, I can do it later. It would be nice to get away with leaving it. I just have a feeling it will need to be done.

The small difference between the 245/70R16 and the 245/75R16 is pretty visually noticeable based on pictures from LOST. I hate to say it out loud, but looks are important too (at least to me).

My only take on it is wether or not you NEED the extra 1/2 inch. My wife says "Size Doesn't really matter" But I know she is lying.

Anway. Extra 1/2 inch verses altering the unibody of your KJ. I know I know, before others jump on my case that it has been done a whole bunch with no issues, BUT...

Why do it if you don't have to? I know it makes no difference to the structural integrity of the KJ, but is can be a spot for water infultration and potential rust before it needs to be. Besides all of these KJ's are only 5 years old. If this was needed on an 84 XJ and by this time there were no issues reported then I would say good enough for me. Personally I went with 245/70/r16's not only for that reason but because I am installing my new Gecko with over 7" tall lights on it and i want all the room to spare I can get so I can still park in my garage. The not pounding the pinch weld was just an added bonus.

Interesting ideas. I am going to try to avoid pounding. I'll do a little more thinking on this before deciding. You have me reconsidering tire size AGAIN...Jeeesh!

Sorry bout that, I can be a real jerk at times, just ask Tommudd.

Besides one more thought.

the 245/70r16's will not throw your speedo off as much. When I went to mine from my 235/65r17's (yes I went to a 16" from 17") it only increased my tire size by like a 1/2 in diameter, throwing my speedo off something like 1%. so if it reads 60 mph the i am really going like 61 or 62 mph.

Not a radar gun in the whole universer that is that well calibrated.

check out this link to see how far off ur speedo will be from the stock setting.

Sorry to complicate matters.

On my KJ I only needed to pound the pinch welds after installing my wheel spacers...
