Post subject: | Mopar Engine/Transmission Skid strengthing |
I don't want to pay for the expensive Skid row Engine Transmission Skid. So I was thinking of having a LOST buddy weld on the mopar one to strengthen it. Would this work? Just adding some more steel or iron strategically to reinforce it. Anybody have any recommendations as to exactly go about this. My friend is a certified welder, and is really good, so it is game on. (He made me some sweet rock sliders BTW.) Advice. My jeep is being setup to be more of an adventure/expedition vehicle then a rockcrawler. Think this mod would suffice for me? If it ends up not being strong enough, I will just look into get a RL skid when they come out. I don't mind giving them my money, because we need him, (and places such as jeepin by al) to do well. But I don't have a time line for them. |

People do this all the time, if you already have the skids, go for it. |

But I don't have a time line for them. Sounds like you have a cost-effective plan. I think most folks end up bending the skids along the long axis, so if you put some angle-iron reinforcements down the length (and especially if you're able to tie them into the mounting points somehow) that would be a killer mod for the cost of the steel, a little rattle-can, and probably a six-pack for your buddy, but only AFTER the welding... ![]() |

Oh I know. I'm not going to name the LOST member, but I know most of you guys know him. He's been working on some stuff for a few of us on here. I will post pictures, as soon as he wants a ton of business. He's a certified welder, and I think going to school for fabrication. I'm just supplying some homework for him. ![]() ![]() As for the skid, that's exactly how I want to strengthen it, across the long axis. And then weld over the mounting points with some flat iron accross (if possible, I haven't looked at the skid yet), and then redrill the holes, and use longer bolts, nutzerts, or whatever to get it mounted. |
