Post subject:  A recovery question...

I was at Ace Hardwear the other day and saw that they sell the big D-rings for recovery... I have a receiver hitch but no adapter for the D-ring to be attached. Is there any way that a D-ring type of shackle can be installed through the pin hole in the receiver hitch itself? (assuming you could find one that fit) I'm sure there's something horribly flawed with the idea but thought I would ask...

If you're looking to go the cheap route, just buy a receiver hitch pin to attach your tow strap to...

Otherwise I saw a thread on here of someone selling the receiver bracket for $35 shipped

you can also get a ball hitch and serve two purposes
1) be able to tow things
2) unscrew the ball and put a D-shackle through it!

Is it that bad to pay $35 for the correct shackle mount to go into the hitch?
