...Had a buddy of mine assist w/the install because he's done a million of em and wow what a difference already and even HE was impressed with the result! (someone who generally dislikes V6s!) ...a throttle body spacer looks to be in her near future too! Now I'm almost ready for that Flowmaster exhaust :wink:

notice any performance differences?

like jeepjeepster said, stay away from the throttle body spacers.

as far as the exhaust, if you want flowmaster, just get the muffler. The KJ already has 2.5" pipes, which is what any catback kit will sell you anyway. :wink:

Neither does a K&N dust funnel.
...and I bet that there is Less CAI effect w/ that open element under hood regardless of that "shield" being in there.

I speak from experience, I hate the fipk on my wifes KJ and if I get my way it will be gone and the stock box w/ Amsoil Ea drop-in back in place in the near future. My 03 w/ stock box has always had better throttle response than my wifes w/ the Full fipk and Amsoil cone filter.

Thanks for the heads-up JJ ..I can see that as an Amsoil man why you may not be fond of the FIPK :wink: but thru recommendations for this kit from my friends w/jeeps (a ZJ, 2 TJs & a WJ, no Kjs actually) ..they have all sworn by the K&N intake kit as the #1 part to buy for performance enhancement part and they have seen first-hand how it increased their TR & HP and 2 of them also got better mpg's with it (most likely bc they coupled it with a flowmaster muffler, which I also plan to do.) No dust buildup probs either. Now I'm not lookin to build a 'Pinks-All Out' racer or anything lol but the way I figure it, if ya have an opportunity to gain anything in these areas that are lacking, couldn't hurt to try! I'm not sayin you're wrong by far, in fact I'm keeping it all in-mind. And I also plan on holding onto my stock setup in case I want to switch it out, however I'd just like to see for myself. ((In all honesty, I'm more excited bout the Flowmaster! 8) ))

No worries. Just sharing my experiences w/ K&N and the FIPK on my wifes KJ. I swore by K&N until moving to the desert and finding dust in my intakes on a couple different vehicles including the KJ. Prior to even being an Amsoil dealer I switched them back to plain old Wix air filters and all was good. If the FIPK was worth it, I would say so since I do own one and I do have an Amsoil filter on it anyway. but I just don't see it changing anything on my 04 KJ and when it had the K&N filter on it I still saw dust in the tube.
You can find dyno tests by magazines on systems like this and see very little gain even when coupled w/ other mods including cat-back systems on the KJ. When you take into consideration Any performance improvement you do get in either MPG or HP, it is a pretty costly improvement if it even exists.

I really don't care what others think or use, just sharing what I have seen and experienced on my Jeeps and other vehicles.

i have a K&N cold air for my 06 and it helped a ton!.. throttle response almost doubled as did power in lower RPM's... I have a flowmaster muffler and it helped a little bit but nothing like the air intake. This is my experience.. nothing dyno proven (except what they claim from K&N)

which gave me an extra 6.36 HP @ 5274 RPM at the wheels... and a real life 2-4 mpg increase (that i found depending on how i drove

so.. everyone has their own opinion on cold air intakes but i'm a believer.. i've never found dust in my pipe.. the again i also dont live in the desert

My K&N install added 2 mpg to my KJ right off the bat...I think you will be pleasantly surprised. I just got back from having my Magnaflow installed today so that in conjunction with my FIPK should help even more. Let us know how it goes byy keeping a close eye on the fuel gauge over the next 6 months of fillups. I got huge gains over the course of recording my mileage over that time period.

I also just performed a second cleaning of the filter which was pretty darn dirty and there was not one lick of dirt or dust in my intake pipe, not even a hint....and I too, DO NOT live in desert conditions so that might be all the difference. I am a believer in them though...and the word is, the K&N actually filters better and better as it gets dirty. Cleaning it is a snap and you are back to brand new in about a half hours time due to waiting for things to dry out.

"K & N Filters - Important Service Information

1. SERVICE INTERVAL
In normal, on-road applications, service your K&N Filter every 50,000 miles. A certain amount of dirt build-up will actually work for you. It does not degrade performance and helps filter the air.

Service the filter more frequently if it is subjected to frequent or heavy dust. Regular operation in a fine dust environment, such as what would be present for agricultural, construction or off-road use, will cause oil loss from the element. Frequent re-oiling of the element's clean side may be required.

I imagine, the moment its installed and you drive, "it starts getting dirty" which is working for me rather than against. Unless we all have a way to keep filters spotless while driving thousands of miles, I'm prone to think that a filter that gets better as it dirties is one that's also doing its job. As I put it, when I did the recent cleaning, there was zero dust in the intake tube....I guess its filtering dirt when its clean which in turn makes it dirty. LOL :P If it weren't, it would stay clean and the intake tube would be coated with a light dusting...not so in my case...again, a non-desert/dust/offroader here 95% of the time...YMMV.

I didn't have the FIPK but I have had the drop in filters on both of my KJ's & I didn't notice anything,

BUT I added an AMSOIL filter to mine ( THANKS JJ) & I noticed a HUGE differance, now I'll get one for my wifes KJ

I have had K&N's in all my trucks & noticed a differance but not with the KJ for some reason

I had the K&N drop in first, and then got the FIPK back when it was sold as the Off Road Kit since it was still waiting on approvals. They both caused close to the same performance improvement. When dirty, the performance increase dropped back and it seemed more like stock. I then added the Profinish-Proglass hood. Getting a lot more cool air to a cone filter makes a surprising difference. I tried completely sealing the FIPK box against the hood, and sealing the bottom, but it didn't make any difference. I tried a 60 amp, 1 psi electric supercharger that kicked in a WOT, and it actually did work as advertised, but a 4-6% increase compared to everything else done to mine really doesn't make much difference. The electric superchargers don't hold up well either. I killed 2 of them in about 5 months, with maybe 5 minutes of actual run time with each. The air filters that come with them are terrible too. The oil comes off them and gunks up the throttle body. Didn't have that problem with the K&N. I have an AEM Brute Force Dryflow filter system now. It flows the best out of everything I've tried so far. As far as the throttle body spacers are concerned, don't waste your money. Get a throttle body from the Fastman instead. A complete cat back will only add a tiny amount more than just a better muffler, but I really love my Borla/Mopar dual outlet anyway. If you really want to wake it up, you need a B&G Chrysler flash. I have an aggressive flash from them tweaked by KRC Performance. It made the biggest difference out of anything I've done. I have some issues with the dyno charts for the K&N. It was done on an automatic in 2nd gear which will not put down 165 rwhp even on a Dynojet which are the highest reading dynos out there. Definately looks adjusted to me.

u know what u should do now?? add the GPM or "Gutter Pipe Mod." bunch of guys did it in the fabrication section and they all said it added a ton of power by routing much more cold air straight to the filter. here is the link if u wana do it...it only costs about $2. =P

Ive personally seen a very LIGHT coat of white dust on the clean side of the air tube with my K&N. This was after following two other Jeeps in the dead middle of summer on a gravel road for about an hour. My blue jeep was WHITE.

Anytime I know that I will be getting in dusty conditions like that again Im going to buy a WIX paper filter and pop in there till its over. :)

K&N does make a difference in throttle response. If anything the sucking sound is cool. :D

This is adiquate but check out the PVC air intake system (page 2) it works great and the only addition I made was screen wire like a screen door patch applied with a hose clamp to keep bugs out of the airbox. I feel an aditional seat of the pants kick as in get up and go and with my ScanGuage series I see a MPG improvement by the reports alone. I like the way it looks due to it's fit and final finish. Plus since switching from a K&N air filter to the Amsoil Air Filter I also see an improvement.
