Brush Guard

since brush guards use the same mounting holes as tow hooks and the front receiver hitch can it be used as a recovery tool or would it just bend or pull off? if a tow strap CAN be hooked up to a brush guard, are there any other draw-backs to installing one?

I have front mopar tow hooks and my bull bar installed using the same holes. I was able to install both options and not have any problems.

yeah i agree... i would say just get longer bolts if you have to and you can make both the brush guard and the tow hooks work together~

yeah but your bull bar goes under your bumper. most grille guards that ive seen attach through the two openings in the bumper (for 02 thru 04s at least) that the tow hooks come out of. i dont see how both tow hooks and grille guard mounts could possibly fit in these same openings.

mine hooks under and also mounts thought the 2 openings for my tow hooks.

The next picture is only the brace for my bull bar.

Jeep Dawg thanks for the great pics. i see how it works now. but does this mean that your bull bar wouldnt be able to pull you out of some nasty soup even if the strap is wrapped around low?

I have a Buffallo bull bar. pretty good too.

I have been pulled out from the front, and also pulled others out from my front as well.

I have the hooks connected to thick rope and wraped around my bull bar so if i ever need to pull or get pulled, everything is already set up. All I do is get connected to some one else.

With the bull bar, the sides come close to my hooks, I do have about 3/4" play to acess the hooks if need be. I find it easy to have it hooked all the time.
Here is a picture to give you an idea how it looks. I only have half of the rope on it rite now. I needed it for something and never put it back on yet.

I got mine off ebay a long time ago. about 3 years ago. And I have not seen them since.

I got the mopar bumper to start off with, not realizing i would have to take off the tow hooks, so as i was installing i noticed if you just forget about the bolt that hold the brush guard on, and take off the tow hooks the brushguard will slide up on the bolts that hold the tow hooks. Then just tighten the tow hooks back on it only looses like 1/6 of the screw thread.

I went out and bought a longer bolt for the bull bar. other wise it would have not fit

thats what I plan on doing whenever I actually have the money to get a brush guard. I think the hitch receiver will need to be modified though. aka cut/reweld. I was taking a look at meh_kick's front receiver and it pretty much fills the openings in the bumper, so a guard that goes into those holes wouldnt work without modifying the receiver. One that goes under the bumper might though.

I was thinking if you cut down the length of the receiver tubing to keep it in between the tow hook openings in the bumper, and then weld on longer brackets to reach the mounting holes, it might just work. Dont know what that would do to the strength of the receiver though.

I recently got a brush guard which mounts where the tow hooks are. I am having a difficult time accessing and removing the bolts. What should I do? Do I need to remove the bumper? If so, is it a pain to remove the bumper and reinstall it? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I gave up on finding a brush guard that would fit on my 05 and not cost me almost as much as a lift. Just got my Mopar tow hooks in the mail today and hopefully wil get them on this week (after I paint the hook part yellow).

I don't think you have to take off the bumper at all it install it.

Is it a mopar? does it have instructions?

It is a warthog brush guard i bought on ebay. It has instructions and it says to remove the tow hooks. So I attempted this and it seemed like I would have to trim some of the plastic bumper to make it possible. I figure I am going to try one more time to wrench them and if it still isnt working im going to sawzall the bolts and just replace them. I saw this worked for someone else so hopefully it will work for me.
