Are hose clamps on here somewhere? I was stranded by a lost hose clamp! Jon |

Hose clamps aren't a bad idea. I'd also recommend changing out all the chintzy snail/spring clamps for quality T-clamps. I like the idea of keeping J-B Weld in there too, I might add some to my kit. My recovery gear bag includes: Tool kit Tire repair kit & extra valve stems, 2x tire gauges, extra tire wrench & extra wheel lock key (for a total of 2 each) Portable compressor / jump starter Jumper cables 2x flashlights & extra batteries Leatherman multi-tool Duct & electrical tape Tow strap Gloves Small tarp Folding shovel Folding solar cell Zip ties Paracord 2x lighters I have a separate first aid kit that I always have which includes: TP Diapers Disposable gloves Band-aids, sterile bandages & wraps Allergy meds, pain killers, burn gel, ointments, etc. Eye drops Cotton balls Vaseline Chapstick Sunscreen & insect repellent Snake bite kit Quik Clot 2x protein bars 6x emergency water bags Wool blanket Emergency reflective blanket SAM splint Moist towelettes Garbage bags Tweezers I always carry a pistol and an extra magazine with me, plus chargers for both cell phones and a portable inverter. |

My .02 worth: A bag of Doritos (any flavor you like) will serve as a food source and a fuel source for starting a fire. The oils in the chips work great as kindling and taste good too. |

I know this is old, but would just like to REALLY second the bag of chips for fire starting.... Corn chips, Doritos, Sun chips, Frito, etc ALL worked AMAZING for starting fires. Quite surprising how effective they are actually... And they taste good, but are probably better health wise for just starting fires... >.> |

I think your cell phone is like taking your wallet and keys with you in this day and age. Yes. No. Maybe. Today's smartphones are kinda delicate, battery life is not that great. I keep a cheap, unactivated pay-as-you-go flip phone in all my rigs. $15 Walmart LG flip has 7-9 days of stand-by time, try that with an iPhone or Galaxy. Don't need to activate them, 911 calls can be made without activation or paying anything. I'm so cheap, I didn't even pay the $15, I got a box of them for $1 at Goodwill along with cords. Unlike a smartphone, if the screen breaks, no big deal, that's what the keypad is for and if I drop it in a puddle, the battery comes out in seconds, plus you can use the battery with a wad of steel wool as a fire starter. |
