Thanks Santa (read: wife) for letting me have my lift kit early!! 8)

After 4 hours of aggravating work, I now have my first suspension lift ever! The front end was definitely the hardest. But overall it wasn't too bad. The strut compressor did NOT work at all. Had to use a shop press to remove the strut. I don't know how you guys are installing these things without a shop and lots of tools. But I really like it so far. Now all I need to do is convince Santa to throw in some mud tires. :lol:

Hey congratulations.

What type of lift? I take it you didn't go with a Daystar spacer lift like eveyone is suggesting for the CRD. Let us know how it is holding up.

Yeah, I did do the Daystar lift. I personally see no reason why any other lift wouldn't work just fine. These things really are not much heavier than a V6 KJ. But I did do the Daystar lift anyway because it was in my budget.

I did the 1.5" front/2.5" rear lift. My rear now sits 0.5" higher, but it looks fine to me. Actually looks better IMO than the front being higher than the rear.

On the way to work this morning I swear it actually had a better ride than stock. I'm not kidding. When it was stock, I always had this sensation of the suspension (especially the rear) bottoming out on bumps, etc. And it was just real harsh. Now it seems to "glide" over bumps and just generally rides a lot better than stock so far. I must admit I was pleasantly surprised by that.

I'm just happy to finally be lifted!! I feel like part of the group now!! :lol:

I'm working on some before/after pics....

Believe me we tried different lifts on the CRD and the Daystar was the only one that really worked on the CRD. Yes it might be just a couple of hundred pounds but it does make a difference...We tried it for dang sure. Hope that helps. later...Clint

Yeah Clint I'm really liking this Daystar lift so far. It rides SO nice. I just need to get in and get my alignment checked soon. And I gotta' throw on my Rancho shocks today even though I have no topping out going on with the stock shocks.

One question though...when my front end compresses now, like going over a speed bump or something, there is a "squishing" sound coming from the front end. Sounds like someone squeezing a wet sponge. I assume it's just the spacers making that noise because of the material they are made of, but I just want to make sure it's normal. Is it?

Thanks Sandie :wink:

I did the 1.5" front/2.0" rear Daystar kit.

I measured from the center of the wheel to the edge of the fender flare.

I picked up:

RR= +1 7/8"
LR= +2"
LF= +1 3/4"
RF = +1 5/8"

So basically I actually got just a hair more than 1.5" out of it up front. Of course, once it settles and I get it aligned it'll be around 1.5". And I got 2.0" in the rear. Exactly what the kit was advertised as!! Cool!

I should have measured before/after for ground clearance but I forgot. :oops:

I have a car domain acct. now so I will try to get the pics posted tonight.

You can see that the lift helped a little. But I really need new tires BAD. I hate these tires.

Thanks guys. I guess any lift is better than no lift, right?

I'm going to get it muddy this weekend at one of our local parks that hosts a Jeep Jamboree annually. I have all the places where I used to rub my skids memorized. I'm going to see if I can clear any of them now without rubbing. 8)

Thanks for the comments everybody. It feels great to have my first suspension lift ever! (Further proof that boys will always be boys regardless of age! :wink: )

Looks great!!
I am wanting to get a lift, but was waiting for some other folks (lab rats) to try some things out.
Which Daystar kit did you buy? How about shocks and struts?

I got the Daystar 1.5" front/2.0" rear lift. Cost me $177.00. And then I got Rancho RS5248 shocks for the rear to get my flexibility back. Those cost me $80.00 for the pair. I'm using the factory struts up front with zero problems so far.

So I've got a little over $250 total in my lift kit, and now my Jeep sits level all the way around, has two more inches of clearance for bigger tires later, and just plain looks better! Plus, the ride has IMPROVED over stock, no kidding!

If you get a lift, and you are on a budget, I strongly recommend this kit. I love it so far. Good luck!
