| Post subject: | Front CV Joint is Out |
I noticed a noise coming from the front end and upon inspection, the CV boot is missing from the front drive shaft allowing dirt to get in and ruin the CV joint located closest to the Transfer Case. It looks like I am going to need a new drive shaft. The dealer quoted me about $500.00 and a local drive shaft shop quoted me $285 for an aftermarket unit. Does anyone know of a cheaper source for a new front shaft or someone who can rebuild the existing shaft. I would prefer to get rid of the junky CV joints and go back with a U Joint shaft if possible. |

Napa rebuilds them for $130 I think. Otherwise check www.car-part.com. I got one with 6000 miles on it for $140 (it even had a 90 day warranty). |

Dang the price sure dropped on those once aftermarket came available!!!!! I had to pay $1200 for just the driverside in late '02 when I blew mine up... couldn't even find a junkyard set at that time... I would search the junk yards, I found a pair for $300.00 in '03 that had .5 miles on them!! brand new, not even surface rust on them , came off a lib that was blown off of the top of the trailer!!! So good used ones are out there. Try these guys, they are in Washington, and They do ship I think. They have 3 different yards www.gundies.com |

I have a set of used ones, less than a hundred miles on them. I have them listed on ebay so check out the pictures on there. If you want them let me know. I'll drop the ebay listing for a fellow LOST member. wesleymiller007@earthlink.net |

I blew my CV as well. I got excited when I saw the ebay listing until I read that the cv's for the diesel are different. It's a good deal if you want to go stock. JE Reel has an aftermarket one for $339 that has a stronger cage. You have to ship the CV to them for the rebuild however since they do not have any cores. It's good for an aftermarket being stronger and all (a little expensive) but at least it is another choice out there. Ask for Jim if you are interested. He might go down in price if he knew what else was out there since they are just now starting this. Never hurts to ask... Here's the link if you are interested. http://www.reeldriveline.com/ Hope this helps. Dave |

GEEZE!!! Guess somebody round here can't read. I now see that jnc91 needed a front driveshaft not a CV!! Just type in "jeep liberty cv" in the search menu. Camper I would have just given them to you but my wife told me to sell them after she stumped her toe on them in the garage. I decided I'd just list them on ebay. I didn't think they would sell, but I guess there are a few out there wanting them. Camper if you win the bid, nextel me so I can bring them down there. |
