| Post subject: | Thinking of moving to Australia... |
I'm considering moving to Australia. My company has a plant in Mulgrave and I am looking to move to that facility for a few years. I think the company will ship my vehicles for me. I know we have some Australian brothers and sisters here on the message board and I have a couple questions for them. I have several things planned for upgrades to the Libby, but based on your Australian Off Road experiences, which of these would be most important, and what other things should I consider? 1) ARB Bull bar (I'll wait till I get there to buy this... It's made there) 2) ARB Air Lockers front and rear 3) Winch (I'd like to get this AFTER th bull bar, but if it is cheaper here, I'll buy it and take it with me) 4) Onboard air compressor (which I would get before the lockers) 5) Full skids underneath (are these recommended there? Should I just get the flimsy Mopar ones?) 6) What about a Jerry can? Gas can, water can, etc 7) Safari roof basket? or Roof mounted tent? (I know there are 8 types of poisonous snakes there, do you recommend sleeping in a tent on the ground or on top?) Thanks, and please excuse my ignorance. That is one reason I want to move there, to learn more about other parts of the world. Thanks, Rescu2000 |

Really depends on where your going to live and drive Mulgrave in Victoria i say all of the above but i am greedy as anywhere lift and skids then tyres a bull bar next if your going to do any country drives a good set of Mud Tyres we will have to talk about some space in your container for a rock lizard bar and skink sliders |

The first thing you need is the steering wheel on the right hand side of the truck ! No, really, they dont allow left hand drive vehicles (unless a street sweeper or a test vehicle). Buy a diesel Land Rover when you get there! (comes with snorkle) |

They got a really long fence down there that would stretch coast to coast across the US. We can't even build one across Mexico. |

We should buy that one from Australia and install it. |

Don't move to VIC, your going to be way happier if you move to Sydney near me and Ed I'm thinking you will find that you can get stuff cheaper in the US, not here. |

Just toss the dingos a baby once and a while and they'll leave you alone. |

don't go near the water - Crocodiles, Sharks and these jelly fish thingies and out of the water - those 7 snakes are some of the deadliest in the world on the other hand - diesel Land Rovers sound good - and there are shops that will put a diesel in a Land Cruiser.... |

Thanks for the replies. I hadn't considered the left hand drive situation... Grrrrrr. I have three vehicles and I am fixing to buy an SL500. Not being able to take them may be a deal breaker. I could live without the wive's cars (a Ford Windstar and a Sebring convertable). But I don't want to give up the Jeep or the Mercedes. I was told that a regular Jeep Wrangler is like $40 grand there. I can't even imagine what the SL500 would cost. "What do you do for a crust?" <- I'm assuming this means what do I do for a living, LOL. I will need a translator for a while.... I can't speak Australian Funny story, the HR managers from Australia came over a few weeks back and somone asked one of them what kind of movies he liked. He said "Girly Shows". He meant "Chick Flicks". Big difference in the USA. LOL Girly shows are strippers and porn....Not that there's anything wrong with that As for where I move to, I don't have a lot of choice. The plant is in Mulgrave and I would need to be close to it. I'm a manager in a pharma plant. We make our oncology drugs there and I need to get some global experience and some experience in the cancer drugs (in Mulgrave) to be promotable to a VP position. You guys REALLY think I can get the bull bar cheaper here? I wouldn't have thought that. It's made in Australia and the shipping has to be outrageous, the thing isn't light. If it was imported, I'd fully understand. I'll end up putting all of the gear above on it, I'm expecting the offer (when and if it comes) to be six figures. Based on some information I've seen on the net, I may even gain some "buying power" due to the lowered cost of living in that part of the country. That wouldn't be true in Sydney of course. I understand that imported manufactured goods are pricey there though. |

Well, since you can get awesome Nissan Patrols and Land Cruisers in Australia, I can't imagine why you would take your Liberty with you at all. |
