lift kit

ok i took the plunge and ponied up the cash for the 2.5 daystar lift
and oh look forward to the PITA of an install ahead

anybody near san fran want to help install a lift
i'll buy the beer :lol:

i am looking forward to the 2 inches of more lift this should give me
it's just not a jeep w/o a lift on it :lol:

Honestly from a 18 yr old guy would just did his own OME... It's not too bad, just take your time and stick with close instructions if you're unsure of yourself. Sure there will be someone out there to help you though.

But as a side.... Yours was always one of the better looking stock KJ's

and hearing how much of a PITA the front end of this thing can be I would travel a little ways to have the experiance of people that know what they are doing or at least that 4 or 5 people can pool ideas better if stuck

The biggest PITB part is safely compressing the front springs to install the spacer in the front coil-over assy. The rest of the R&R process is fairly easy and basic and could be done in a few hours tops. If you can get a shop to handle the front coil-over setup you can walk through the rest w/ the help of all the instructional posts on this forum.
If after reading through the posts and such you still need help, maybe it is time for you to take a road trip about 6 hours South and we can put a lift party together.

I am a good 3-4 hours from you. If I was closer, I'd be there to lend a hand. Not sure how helpful I'd be, I've only installed my Frankenlift. I'm interested to see a good write up with some pics on this install though. Never seen a daystar lift install before, only the finished product.

You can expect a good 1-2 hours to do the front struts, unless you have them done professionally. I had no issues with CRD coils to OME 400 lb springs, other than a tight fit on the compressors. the actual lift process is simple, just TAKE YOUR TIME and don't become rushed. Only issue I never have tried is the changing of strut plates to the daystar set up, shouldn't be tough.

Make sure you have al the tools you need, a complete instruction sheet, correct torque specs, plenty of food and you'll be all set.

You don't need 4 or 5 people to pool ideas, you just need one that knows what he's doing. :lol:

so here is the nect question i hear everbody talk about springs settling after a lift
how long or approx. how many miles would someone put on a liberty ofter the lift but before
attempting an alignment so as to not have to go back and do it again after tire have been eatten up
im trying to no kill my fairly new rubber just by lifting

Mine took just a few days to settle. I think I aligned it the weekend after I did the lift. I did the lift by myself and had nothing to go on other than the intsructions that came with the lift. I did a write up on the install.

I probably have more tools around than the average guy, but spring compressors can be rented at a local auto parts store. I have a press but you can do the work with out one, it just makes life easier when you do have one.

thanks taz for that link VERY HELPFUL

i dont have all my tools anymore since moving to california
but i have access to most of them still and have a place to use them
also a press for the bolts the shop has which will help
Still looks that the only PITA is the putting everything back together

Now if you are in the process of putting the thing back together could slip in a could of those
clevis rings to bump another 1/2-1 " out of her thinkng 2 rings while putting back together

Just a thought

Thanks for the kuddos all! Really it does make taking the time to do the write up worth while. I am glad I could help others out.

One thing that scares people is assembling the struts. Really it's not bad at all. With a good set of strut springs compressors it's pretty easy. I sure didn't feel unsafe at any point while doing the work. The first strut I had to assemble a couple of times as you have to make sure you get the top plate lined up with the clevis properly. Really the whole thing wasn't too bad for being my first time working with this type of set up. I am sure I could have done it in a day, but I tend to work slow...............

Your spring should have already settled as much as they will, your just adding spacers to them now. A full spring lift would settle some.

They settle especially in the front. Trust me on that one.

not exactly b/c w/the spacer you going to be adding more pressure on the coils

So I did it
I ordered a 2.5 daystar lift which should arrive this weekend
I plan on trying to install the lift the following weekend

I plan on including 2 conduit rings below the strut during the install process

I just cant wait to get a little more altitude on the jeep

Downside is that my tires are almost brand new so i will have to roll on the 235 BFG's for a while
