Post subject:  Clevis pics please: with and without clevis lift
Hi all, I'd like to see some clear shots of a clevis lift, not a side shot of the KJ but a close up of the clevis before and after the lift. Dosent have to be the same KJ, so please post up.

The reason I'm after a few shots of this is I've noticed that the bottom of the strut assembly (on my KJ) sits about 5mm up from the top of the clevis. So when I put the top strut plates in I put it back in the same place, now I'm wondering if that's how it should be or not. Anyway my front left seems to be a little lower than the front right, and I'm going to fix this but wanted to see what others look like 1st.

I know on the stock struts there is a small shoulder that prevents the clevis from going past a certain point, could be what causes the 5mm gap you are referring to. At any rate, here is my one good shot of a clevis without any lift; note that the strut is a Rancho replacement and not the original, but hopefully it helps:

And in looking at this picture I believe there is also about the same amount of gap between the top of the clevis and the larger bottom plate on the strut assembly - I know there is some gap between the strut plate and the area where the top clevis bolt threads thru (if that makes any sense :? ).

That's what mine look like but I have the OME shocks. It thats how it should be do the clevis rings fill that space or what?

Here's a pic with the conduit nuts in place before I installed the strut.This has 3 conduit nuts under the spring perch.

This is the point where I couldn't get the old strut out of the cleavis whe I was taking it apart, but it shows how much you could raise the strut.

WooHoo!!!!!


I'm going to have a go at replacing my clevis pivot bushes on the weekend. They are the mounts at the bottom of the strut fork that attaches the clevis fork to the lower control arm. Mine are shagged, and I believe thats where I get a big clunk from....sooooooooo. Here's hoping I have a car later this weekend :roll:

I'll let you know...

I'm making my own bush removal/instal tool to do the job, and if all goes to plan, it shouldn't be that hard, but, you know what they say about "Should".. :lol:
