Just to give you Jeepers a heads up, I clevas lifted my KJ with the Rusty's kit and it did not hold after some offroad abuse. After that, the KJ sat quite lop sided. :roll:

I ended up just doing away with the clevas lift in the end and loosing 1/2" of lift up front. :cry:

I hate to ask, but did you use a torque wrench? The clevis lift I did with my Rusty's lift is holding up fine.. 3 off-road trips so far with some pretty good abuse.

I bought a couple of those 2" diameter conduit lock nuts to put in there to prevent slippage...I hope that helps.

Actually, it was mostly slow and easy because my wife has my boy in her belly, but I did get a few wild hairs where I tried to bottom out the front suspension on some dips.

I did torque the clevas bolt to 110lb-ft when I installed the lift and again a month later. Oh well, it is probably better for the ball joints to be a little lower anyway. If I do it again, I will find a "ring" of some sort to help support the strut.

Sound like a little project for Quinn?

Has anyone posted how much lift ratio is achieved from doing the clevis lift. Ex. 1/8" clevis nets 3/8" lift or 1/4" clevis nets 3/4" lift, etc. ? Is there rule of thumb to go by.

My 1/8" clevas netted about 1/2" overall or so.

Good I need the 1/2" in the front. When I did the rear I left the factory rubber isolater in which gave me a slight rake and has the rear a little higher. It levels out with the camping gear in the back but how often is that there, not as much as I drive it normally without it. Just want to bring the front up enough to level the thing out, then re-align.

i did a 1/2" clevis and got about 3/4" more lift.

Just got back from home depot. They were out of those 2" electrical conduit nuts I heard someone use on a thread here. How thick are those things. I was hoping to hold one in my hand but out of luck.

They are 1/8" thick... at least the ones I have seen are 1/8" thick. So I guess tou could stack a few to get the desired lift.

BTW... What would be the max amount you shoudl go on a clevis lift and still be safe? 3/8", 1/2". 5/8"?

My engineering background tells me sternly that there should be the full surface area of the bottom of the strut assy to clamp onto. My offroading side says "More lift! More Lift!!"

Seriously though, personally, I would not go more than 1/4" for safety and strength. I mean, look at what happend to mine... I set the bottom of the strut assy just a hair inside the bottom of the clevas and got a solid 1/2" up front. I loved it but have learned my lesson and I don't pound the snot out of the KJ either. Others, however have had good luck with it.
