Lifts for the CRD.

Any lifts out there that work well with the extra weight of the diesel?

I'm getting my lift next weekend. I have the Daystar 2.5 inch lift. Per Quinn from http://www.boulderbars.com the only thing out right now that will handle the weight of the CRD is the Daystar. He has lifted one so far and not had any problems. I went this route w/ the BDS rear shocks. I'll post pictures and let you know how it rides. I'm still deciding what brand of tire to buy and what size though.

Since the CRD only weighs a tad more (less than 300 lbs.) than a V6 model, why on earth are people saying the spring lifts won't work? Is 275 lbs. more weight really that big of a deal? So if you have a spring lift on a V6 model, and a 275 lb. man gets in it to ride, do those handle like crap too? I'm just curious what the big deal is. The turbo-diesel engine doesn't add THAT much weight...

Stevehawk put a Rusty's 2.5 coil and clevis lift, rubicon wheels, 31" Mtr's
he had some rubbing but we smashed the pinchweld down.

Thanks for the replies, but wouldn't the 275 lb man have to be sitting on the hood to make the rig handle comparably? If he's in the rig seems like it would be spread more over the entire rig's suspension.

I was just as suprised as you about the differences. I started looking at my diesel comparing it to the 2002 I had. The diesel engine is heavier I believe. Also, there is the sound dampening that they did to the vehicle to reduce the noise in the cab. This included insulation at the firewall and underneath at the skidplates. If you look, they've also injected insulation into the unibody at the firewall. The rear gate is much more solid and nothing vibrates when I close it, unlike my 2002. Nothing out of the ordinary but you can definitely tell the difference between the two when comparing them. How much weight did this add on? I don't know. But I could definitely feel the difference when I swapped to the Daystar. The Frankenlift was very, very comfortable in a straight line. At highway speed it was like floating on air. But the minute I went into a turn, the "lean" was just to much for my feeling of comfort. Perhaps this won't bother others but I feel safer with less body roll on something that heavy. I wanted to like the Frankenlift as I had heard nothing but good things about it but with the diesel I am very happy with the Daystar. Now if they can just fix the overheating issue...

No. See that's the thing. The engine isn't what weighs 300 lbs. more. It's the engine/tranny/insulation that's used throughout the vehicle that adds a little more weight. But it's just that...a LITTLE more. So I don't get it.

We have a CRD and just had a Rockfather II lift put in, and it's great so far. We had RRO custom cut the front springs to counter the extra weight. Sits completely level. And there is very little body roll - I'm pretty amazed. Very tight feeling for a lifted vehicle with 245 MTRs. We are very pleased!

Well if 275-300 extra pounds sacrifices the ride and control of a full suspension lift that much, then personally I'd be very reluctant to use that particular lift to begin with on any KJ. 275 lbs. is, or should be, nothing to a 2-ton vehicle. BUT...just to be safe I think when I lift mine I'll go with a spacer lift...maybe a Daystar or Revtek 2" spacer lift. I just want to be able to run 245/75-16s.
