Post subject:  ARB Locker

I almost can't breath, i just bought an cheap barely used ARB locker, im soooo happy!! i will take to the installer next week (i hope), but i don't know if i take the liberty to the ARB specialist (260 labor for the install) or to take it to a differential specialist (way less) ? is too complex to install?

thanks!!!

It installs like anyother carrier but you ahve to drill a hoel for the airline nothing else different. a dif specialist could do it.

If your diff specialist has never done an ARB install then they are not a specialist. The deal from the ARB person sounds fair though.

Don't forget to get new o-rings for the ARB,it'll be alot of work to get it installed then it leaks air(knocked o-rings are the #1 reason for airleaks and someone who has never installed one before can easily knick the o-rings).I'd take it to someone who has dealt with ARB's before, there is a learning curve to the install of a ARB,not harder just more involved.

yes the oring's will be replaced, good advice

where did you make the hole, left or right?

There isn't the big ARB compressor only the mini, so i will have to wait until i import one, or make other oba install.

The mini compressor will do fine for the locker ,that is what I use

I use the mini compressor as well, works just as good as the regular one for the lockers.

I know the mini works well with the locker, but with the limited space onboard, I would like to fill my tires from the same source even put a tank conected to the compressor.

better be looking for something bigger then any of the ARB compressors,Viair makes some good pumps.

Go with a CO2 tank. Much faster and can do a bunch of tires.

I don't use my tank for lockers but I do for tires. This past Friday I took my nieces to the lake and we have this trampoline that floats on the water and two large river rafts. I filled all three with my tank and still have a bunch left in the tank. I was actually really surprised because the trampoline is 8 feet in diameter and about 2.5 feet tall. My vote is for the tank setup.

dont waste your time and money on an electric compressor for filling tires
I can fill 8 tires of about the same size in the time the bigger ARB compressor can fill 3
I use CO2 ,and I drive a TJ and carry a 20# tank but a 10# tank would be just as fast but only last 1/2 as long
so I dont see where a KJ would have a space issue
also the mini compressor fits under the driver seat in my TJ but would easily fit under the rear seat in a KJ
and it is not noisy enough to care and on top of that it only runs for about 30-45 seconds when you first turn it on then about 10 seconds at a time every time you you lock your locker ,now I am a freak about hooking up and running air lines and such properly so leaks will cause issues

Now, with more time to think and the good comments, the CO2 would be a good way to go for tires, and a mini for the locker, two separate systems more reliable, so i was looking last weekend for used tanks and a #10 it's about 60 bucks, plus i have to buy the regulators and hose, i think will be about 150, and the mini for about 260, but no wait. do you tank guys have any pict of the tank install on the liberty?, thanks

thanks for the comments

If you can get one, and we have distribution in Chile... PM for his info.. Grab the new CKMA12 medium duty compressor.
It puts out about 2.2 CFM @ 30 PSI with a 50% duty cycle. In other words... I stone flatted my 35's on the KJ (like on the ground) and had them filled up to 30 psi in 24 minutes at 68 degrees. Normal usage (15-20 psi back to 30-35 psi) is usually done in 10 minutes tops. Plus you get everything you need to work the locker units including the pressure switch and wiring harness. All for around $250 USD to you the consumer. The pressure switch itself goes for $35.00

Compare a Viair or Oasis with similar duty cycles/cfm with that and it's tough to beat...

Is the ARB for the front the same as a regular Dana 30, or does the kj use a different carrier than the rest?

KJ uses something different, the only thing that I know of that works in the front is the Detroit True-Trac

The regular D30 ARB will work in the D30A,just make sure you get the D30 ARB for the 27-spline D30.

I think is the RD100, same for both D30 and D30A with 27 splines.
