I was just under the KJ for the last couple of hours trying to get the darn front dive shaft off and for the life of me I couldn't figure out the trick.

I was able to free the front end from the front diff, but the back of the shaft is locked tight in the transfer case cup and I'm not sure what the best way to free it up is.

Anyone got any good suggestions to get the thing out, I'm sure my neighbors are tired of me swearing at it.

And on a related note, is there a good option for getting away from the stock flanged unit and going with a u-joint solution?

thanks!

The front end of the driveshaft is spring-loaded (where the black rubber accordion boot is), so once you have it unbolted pull forward on the back half and it should shrink down enough to get it out of the t-case flange, then tilt the back end up and away so the front will clear it's flange.

I did notice that, but is there any trick to freeing the back half from the cup that it's in? It's locked in tight and I can't really get at it with a hammer to try and free it.

I was considering screwing the front back together and using the engine to try and free it but I don't want to break anything.

Also, does anyone know where a good place to order a u-joint style replacement front shaft? I haven't priced the replacement one from jeep, but I'm sure it's expensive and for the life of me I can't figure out why they used a flange style in the first place.

Thanks for the help,

I got a price of close to $800.00 for the front drive shaft from the dealer and that was to install it too. So I guess it is about $600.

Go after market. I got mine for 96.32 it was a reman but what the hell, I am just going to break in in a few months any ways. Go cheep it wont hurt as much

Did you get it off? Mine was tough also - http://www.lostjeeps.com/forum/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?t=33829&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0.
I did get it off by pounding hard on it with a hammer and screw driver.

I did not get it off a web site.
I got it from my cousin. He runs an auto parts store in NY. I get things at his cost. All I gotta do is return the CORE.
