Need help replacing oil pan!!!!

I can't seem to figure out how to get my oil pan out and put in the new one!!!!! I would really apreaciate any help on this matter! Pictures and descrption would be nice. Thanks

Jiffy Lube stripped out my drain plug and I went to the dealer to get the pan replaced. The dealer begged my not to make them do it because it's a huge job. They convinced me to let them re tap the pan and put a bigger plug in. They say it happens all the time. When you figure that Jiffy was paying the bill and they refused the money, it must be a major PITA!

the nut was stripped and unable to be released! I had recently purchased the 04 kj from a private seller and when I went to change the oil I couldn't. So thinking I could replace it myself I purchased a new pan. I was told I wouldn't want to retap the pan because of the metal shavings in the pan. So my brand new to me jeep is just sitting there with a hanging oil pan!!!! Should I just bite the bullet and take it in or is there a trick I can use?

So youve already taken the bolts out of the pan and tried to get it out?

You probably need to take the front axle out.

Its possible that some metal shavings could of gotten back into the pan. One thing you could of done was buy the cheapest oil you could find and pour it through the engine with the plug out to flush it out. Anything thats left should get caught in the filter.

According to the FSM you need to remove the engine completely to do the oil pan.You may get away with lifting the engine up about 4"-6" like the older Ford pickups needed with the TTB front suspension to get the pan off.The main reason you are having problems is the oil pump pickup is getting cought on the windage tray and with the engine in the vehicle there is not enough room to get it out.

I would try unbolting the engine mounts and lifting the engine up a few inches then try to remove the oil pan.If that doesn't work you may be looking at pulling the engine completely out.

What about supporting the engine and frame and just dropping the crossmember? Then you wouldn't have to deal with the tranny and plumbing and wiring and all that.

If that won't work, what about retapping the plug anyway? If you can get the pan low enogh you could just flush it out with cleaner or something to get the chips out, or maybe even a vacuum with a small hose attached to it to suck everything out?

What about those oil plugs with the magnets in them? You could get one of those as well. Then it would attract anything that is still in there on the oil plug. Just change the oil after a few hundred miles and clean off the plug.

You could also replace it with an oversize plug w/o tapping it. There are oversize plugs made just for stripped oil pan plugs. They are specifically made for when someone overtightens the plug and are sized just slightly larger thant the original plug.

thanks everybody for your replys! I will probably just drop the front axle that will be easier than pulling the whole engine out!!! it is going to be a bigger job than I thought but i have done it before. thanks again everyone.

Doing all this just to replace the pan sounds like way too much work.

or just put some grease on the tap it will get most of the shavings

Dropping the front axle will do nothing,it's the rear crossmember of the engine cradle that is in the way preventing the removeal.
