from the shape of it and the 8.25 have the flat bottom, and if you really want to make sure another way to check is to get your build sheet

what locker are you getting?

There should be a sticker on the axle tube near the brakes that tells you all the info you need.

I don't recall mine having that "pin" in the carrier.

You have the 8.25 diff and it is open since you have clearly visable spider gears.Any full carrier locker/LSD replacement for the 8.25 will work or get the lunchbox loxker for the open diff carrier.

Thanks, I just recieved my build sheet via email. Sure enough I have the 8.25. It doesn't specify open or trac lock. Why the heck would anybody put an open differential in a 4WD vehicle! Useless!!! Comand Trac my stupid! More like Comand Crap! Ok I'm finished. Oh well, it'll just be that much easier to replace it. Unless my ring gear's in the way and I can't get the spider gears out. That'll be just my luck too.

According to PowerTrax, there are two models of Chrysler 8.25" Open Diff's...

The 27t -- p/n #92-0382-2705
The 29t -- p/n #92-0382-2905

Would the build sheet (from Jeep) tell me this, or do I need to go back in and count? Fwiw, I have a '02 Limited (pre-lowered, dated 9/01) and there is no visible I.D. info anywhere on the rear end.

I want to order the proper No-Slip Locker, asap from wherever I can get the best deal.

I think this might be a TracLok, but I'm not sure. If it is, it's worn out at 78000 miles.

TJKJ2002, I'm wanting to know so I can pick the proper locker. Not that I'm doubting you but can you explain the difference in appearance to me. Also can you tell if I have the Dana 35 or the Corporate 8.25 Here's the pic of the pumpkin. I've read around as to what the difference is supposed to be, but I can't tell.

I'm still researching it, but I'm pretty sure lockright makes one that will work. I've read that the aussie locker is supposed to be good. Kind of getting ahead of myself though since I'm not sure what kind of diff I have yet. My old Tahoe had all of the codes on a sticker in the glovebox. The KJ doesn't have this so I'm a bit lost right now.

You can request it on Jeep.com somewhere but not sure exactly where. It takes a while I think for them to get back to you though. Or just take your VIN to your dealership and they can't print one up for you there.

Command trac is the t-case,nothing to do with your diffs.Open diffs is the standard for all vehicles unless you fork over the money for something like the Wrangler Rubicon that comes standard with lockers.Any LSD that is clutch based,all OEM LSD's,are plain junk since they wear out after 30,000miles and require you to add friction modifier to the gear oil.Get a good aftermarket locker/LSD like the Detroit True Trac(LSD),full Detroit locker,or the ARB airlocker(probally the best).

Make sure you get the one for the 29-spline 8.25.There is a 27-spline 8.25 that was used in some older XJ's and will not work in the 29-spline 8.25 in the KJ.
