I'm not too mechanically inclined so i dunno about any of this, but does the 4x2 kj have cv joints in the front? if it doesn't wouldn't it be possible to lift it more than 2.5" (i know this is the 4x4 forum but not too many people look in the 4x2 forum it seems like)

no cvs on 2wd, you have a sealed hub, so no shaft...

I think the only limits you have are:
Driveshaft
front and rear arms
Tie rod end links (attaching knuckle to steering rack
