Your looking at closer to 180-190lbs total with ARB and winch(with the death cable

),lose the steel cable and that weight drops to about 140-150lbs.Your front will drop some,you should have the OME HD coils so the sag will not be much,maybe 1/4" or so.

I hope reliability is not a factor,for just $200 more you can get a much better winch,the WARN M8000.At least the WARN will work when it counts the most,like 20 years down the road.

2006 KJ, are you ready to buy an ARB right now? If not, then maybe you can wait for the RL bumper, which might be lighter and offer a removable winch option. I’m not sure what you are looking to do. I personally like the ARB. However, I also like the removable winch mount, so I’m torn between the two.

haha I know what you mean, I was talking to a guy at the Ford dealership bc he pulled in driving a New Wrangler so I got to talking to him about it and he had Warn front and rear bumper and the bigger Warn powerplant winch and a 6.5" lift with 35" MT tires, there was a lot of money into it so I asked him where does he go off-raod at and he just stood there giving me this funny look and he said its never been off-road and that it has never seen a dirt road. although we have the warn powerplant on our rubi and i LOVE it.. its just not suitable for me. i'm afraid after using it (9500lbs with 125ft cable) that when i use mine (8000lbs with 94ft cable) it might feel like a girly ATV winch.

and i'm sure mine WILL get used... i live in the land of mud in the spring and fall... not that that's what i'm into but it's part of offroading in this part of the country.

most of those pulls where pulling out 3/4ton pickups,lifted,sitting on 35" tires(my friends try the impossible) that where buried past the tires in mud.The one self recovery I had to dig for the winch :shock:

will installing an ARB bumper and winch (with steel cable not that fake garbage ) make my KJ sag? i have the standard frankenlift... and am kinda concerned that the front will be a low-rider once all that weight is hung out there. any input would be great!

ya, the ARB weighs 85# and then add another 65# for the winch? Im not sure what a winch weighs but your talking about adding over 125# to the front of your suspension what coils do you have?

I believe I remember you mentioning that you ordered an HD Franky a while ago. I'm old and stuff though so I might be wrong about that. You won't lose much, even with the steel cable but, with all the advances in plastics, why not lose 50 pounds and sit just that tiny bit higher? I plan on syn cable as soon as I can afford it.

my dad owns a body shop/ towing business and has been towing for the last 25 years (24 hours) with steel cable.. i've helped out the last 4 years and that's what i've grown to trust... so i'll keep the heavy cable for my mental stability and add an extra conduit nut for the weight to put 'er back up to stance hopefully the conduit nuts will work for a clevis lift on my rancho struts? also i'm looking at this winch.. any input on it.. good or bad is greatly appreciated! http://www.4wd.com/productdetails.aspx?partID=40271 it's the smittybilt XRC8 price is a factor..

ya you can do the clevis lift with the ranchos, just buy some 2" conduit nuts, you better make it worth it thought bc you will probably need an alignment afterwards too

The XRC8 is actually a re-branded TMAXX. Not the best but, it's been upgraded since the first model. It now has a 5.5hp series wound motor, rather than a 4.1hp permanent magnet motor. Not as fast or powerful as a Warn but draws less power.

i am pretty sure he is trying to get Grape's ARB... I agree with TJKJ, if i wanted an off-road vehicle, i wouldn't buy a Ford Escape, I'd get the real thing, A JEEP LIBERTY personally I love WARN and would get nothing but it!

The only thing about a removable winch is that you, or anyone else, can remove it. Then if it's not there... what good is it? if it is there... it's easy to steal. The ARB is nice because no one is going to go through the trouble of taking off your bumper to get the winch. and if they do you have bigger problems than no winch. ... having a warn winch would be real nice but like i said before.. just not in my price range. i'm just happy that my KJ wont be a low rider in the front (hopefully)

ya, my mom, on her 58th b-day, bought herself a porche carrera, but she can't help me get a winch... all kidding aside, she got it b/c she just won a big case, lawyers!!!, and it was used, but still!!!

I have run into tons and tons of people with winches on their jeeps and the vast majority have never even used them, and the ones that have use them more for clearing trails and trail work than jeep recovery. I would assume the winch you are looking at will be more than suitable for your KJ. It may not be the best out there, but do you really need that? I say go for it.

Not to beat a dead horse here but if you think you will be using it often,well you know what I'm going to say. I have only used my winch here in CO 3 times over 2 years,dang glad I got the winch I wanted since it was really put to the test on 2 of those pulls.Back home in South Dakota I have used my winch probally 10 times over the past 4 years,again dang glad I went overkill on the winch since most of those pulls where pulling out 3/4ton pickups,lifted,sitting on 35" tires(my friends try the impossible) that where buried past the tires in mud.The one self recovery I had to dig for the winch (stupid me following my idiot friends through the impossible).

(or a tank....) i guess i forgot to ask a pretty important question... will the smittybilt XRC8 winch fit in an ARB bumper???
