Sweet, got the kit from a local trans distributor for $77 after tax.

Hey Troy, I have a question about when you installed your HD2. The kit comes with wires and rings for the pistons. I'm guessing the wires go under the rings, but don't know for sure. Fits together ok that way, but I don't want to screw anything up if I'm wrong. You know if I have this together correct?
Could not tell you, still haven't installed mine yet.

Man, that stock plate got pretty bent up, hope that cures all the probelms. You can bet it will shift firmer, all the holes are much smaller int he new plate, ups the line pressures.

Huh, you prefer a transmission originally designed for FWD vehicles with smaller engines?

The 45RFE is tough and is used in full size trucks. They just should have loctited the bolts to begin with. Eugene had almost 108k miles to work those bolts out. When I'm done, I doubt we'll ever have the same problem again.

yes and 113,000 on my FWD trans (as you put it) with NO problems,
its one of those things that may happen, no need to blame any one transmission. I have torn apart plenty of C-6s and TH400s that were destroyed and those are some of the toughest trans around.
Lets not get into a *issing match about whose is better

Meh, I have no experience with the 42RLE. I only know what I read about it. I'm sure it's fine, but the 45RFE reads to be a stronger unit. I could be completely wrong.

I know I love my 700R4s and 4L60Es, but that's a different vehicle entirely.

 I'm guessing its not supposed to be bend and dented like that!! Good luck with the install. I have 80K miles on my 45RFE and the Transmission Range sensor had to be replaced, basically a neutral safety switch mounted INSIDE the transmission, part of the solenoid pack on the valve body. The part alone cost around $500!! So I can't say my 45RFE tranny is bulletproof, but I'm sure all trannies have their problems.

can you imagine the force on there to bend that like that  But then I have found some strange things inside trannies, that was my winter job when I was at the Ford dealership

Between Grumpy and Eugene I am sick of laying under vehicles and smelling like trans fluid.

I did the math this morning and we've spent just under $110 fixing Eugene, much better than the $2700 we were quoted at the trans shop.

FYI Jeep has a TSB about this problem and most dealers have a kit in stock that replaces the effected parts with the exact same parts. If I remember correctly the kit is less than $20.

If you are worried about this happening to you, tighten the accumulator plate's Torx screws every time you have the trans pan off. Better yet, next trans service go ahead and pull the valve body out, and blue loctite the bolts.

Did you take any pics of the work? It looked rather straight forward when I had my pan off but I could be wrong.

I didn't take any pics, but it is fairly simply. Remove the pan filter. Disconnect the wiring harness, it's on top, front/left and huge. Remove 6 bolts holding valve body up, 3 in back, 1 each front, left, right. These use the same size socket as what was used to remove the pan. Take care of accumulator bolts. Reassemble.

Sounds simple enough.

Sure wish I could see the pics on this thread. My '05 just threw a P0700 code, with no other symptoms except that it is spinning at about 2200RPM at 50MPH on the way home. 8 years ago, I had a Suncoast TC put in, and the TransGo kit as well...by a shop locally. I hope they actually replaced the accumulator plate.

Dangit...

How difficult is it to pull the pan on this and have a look to see if there are broken parts strewn about? Anything else I should try before taking it to a tranny shop? Flush and filter change was done about 30k ago, and I now have 170k on the vehicle. Runs great. Need it to keep doing that!
