Well for starters, with the KJ on level ground, start it and put the trans in N (transmission can be either cold or hot). What does the dipstick read? And is the trans fluid burnt? Other than that, I don't know much about the codes. |

It seems like Eugene is a bit upset after that bit of trail damage from Badlands  Doesn't he know it's good for him?

thats a bummer sorry to hear about it 
if it were me Id be real tempted to buy the other one and just swap them out and once you get the old one fixed just sell it or keep it as a spare |

Makes me wonder how they can say it's something broke inside when they haven't tore it part? Either way I would by the other tranny and put it in yourself if possible.

From the sounds of your problems you may have just blown the side plate off the valvebody,seams a common breaking point when a 45RFE loses it's upper gears. |

You're talking about the accumulator plate, correct? Your post has brought about another round of internet research. Now I really want to drop the pan again to inspect the valve body and such. Hopefully we'll see something that doesn't require us swapping out the trans. |

I pulled a valve body of a '01 Dakota with that plate coming off,after putting it back together(with new plate,bolts,and locktite) it ran fine for about 5miles then bang,there went the tranny which was a full rebuild time. But it is defintally worth a shot,might as well while your at it get the Transgo 45RFE shift kit(about $120) and comes with a new plate and will help with the shifting. |

I was already looking at the Transgo and GFX shift kits. Where did you get that price? Everywhere I've looked so far can get the Transgo SK45RFE kit to my door for less than $50. |

 Gotta call around tomorrow to see if a replacement part is possible without having to order and wait for the part. Aaron found it at Summit Racing, not ebay. I'm so impatient - I miss my jeep.  These pieces shouldn't be here...  Bent plate...    any ideas as to what caused this? |

I sure hope this fixes for you guys, a rebuild or even JY replacement sounds like $$$$$. If the wifey's goes out, sure hope it happens before the warranty runs out. Speaking of that, I really got to get fluids changed in that thing, 41K on factory fluids. |

From what I've been reading, this is a weak point on the 45RFE transmissions. The pistons put pressure on that plate, it flexes, and slowly work the bolts out. Once one of the bolts has worked out enough, it can cause others to break. The shift kits use a thicker plate and add more bolts to prevent the flex. I plan on using Loc-Tite on the bolts during reassembly. |

Sweet, got the kit from a local trans distributor for $77 after tax. Hey Troy, I have a question about when you installed your HD2. The kit comes with wires and rings for the pistons. I'm guessing the wires go under the rings, but don't know for sure. Fits together ok that way, but I don't want to screw anything up if I'm wrong. You know if I have this together correct? |

Looks like I'm done working on it for today, I want to get the proper Torx head bolts for the accumulator plate from the dealer to replace the damaged ones. Looks like it should go back together fairly easily though. |
