I will soon be lifting my Liberty and have a question as to why there are so many lifted libs that keep there stock rims. Is it just the added expence of rims or is there another reason? My thoughts were that by putting on some off-set rims after you lift it, might help with the increased roll-over factor and also make it look good also. Please don't think I'm cutting down the stock rims, just needed to ask.

With the lift comes the desire for bigger tires. Bigger tires means rubbing on your wheel wells. Offset rims increases the rubbing. That's why many people run the stock rims. My tires rub but not too much. There are a few that run aftermarket rims though. Roachman here in AZ runs them. Might ask him his experience with them.

Just a tiny bit more offset moves the tires off the swaybar. Too much offset and then you'll have more rubbing at the front and back of the wheel well. More offset = bigger arch (think of the wheel assembly as a pendulum).

The Rubicon wheels work just about perfectly. If I was going to get aftermarket wheels I would copy those stats. 16X8 w/ 5.25 backspacing

I though the Rubicon wheels where 5" backspacing, but I could be wrong. I know the stock limited wheels are 5.5"

I'm pretty sure they are only .25" less backspacing than stock. What gives them the wider stance is the 1" extra width.

I run black steel wheels with approx. 4" of backspacing. Definite rubbing with 265's - but not as bad now with 245's on.

The wider stance might not technically negate the raised center of gravity due to the lift - but it sure feels more stable to me.
