Post subject:  Behind Rear Bumper?

Does anyone have any pics with the rear bumper off? Just wondering as to what is under there that could be used to fab a rear bumper too.

That's a good question. I am thinking about doing the same thing. Maybe an XJ rear bumper or TJ bumper. Help us out anyone... :D

how good are yous guys (NJ) with a welder? I have welded up the spare tire mount, looks like the Warn unit. I have a piece of 8 inch channel and I am looking into fabing up a rear bumper for the KJ. I am planninmg to mount the spare higher so you can use the hitch better. The only problem I can see is the rear glass. You may not be able to flip the glass open without moving the spare first.

It looks like an easy fab. Sometime soon, I will be cutting up the rear plastic. I am figuring there is some honey comb plastic behind the plastic covering.

I am planning to keep the end cabs and place the channel section where the center section of the bumber is now (area were the lic. plate is).

I will try to keep you posted on my progress.

With the Mid-Atlantic meet and greet, and the install party coming up, I may not get to it for a while. The problem with this overall plan is the weight. The channel is heavy (1/4" steel) as is the tubing for the spare. Its around around 90 lbs. Keep the back end down however!

Al, you should make the rear tire carrier ajustable like Rock Lizzard plans to. My idea on this was to have a bar slide inside the other and have hitch pins holding the tire up.

I will try to post pics this weekend... There is a plastic honey comb thing, and a semi curved flat metal rear "frame" support that goes side to side and seals the end of the "suedo frame rails"

My dad is coming out in Jan, and plans to give me the wire needed to hook up my welder, and I will be off and running with my bumper and tire carrier I dea.

Going to have a pivot on it to lower the wheel to the ground too kinda like this:

Note the hand crank to raise and lower the tire.

I have always liked the D90 / 110 rear bumpers.
