Post subject:  transfer case ?
well i have had this grinding noise for about 3 years.. about 2 1/2 ago i took my jeep out to the jeep dealership, had them check it out and they said the noise was common and it was nothing to worry about.. Well just got my jeep back today from a local mechanic for charging issues and he said that my transfer case was going out. This is the same noise that my dealership said was common and not a problem.. so im a little pissed right now. because my jeep is no longer under warranty but was when i first took it out to the dealership.. I don't wheel my liberty anymore, have a cj for that now but has anyone else had this problem with the transfer case? any recall on it?

When does it grind? If it does it a little when you engage it, it is common and Not a problem. If it does it all the time while in gear then there is a problem.

yea it does it all the time.. been going on for about 3 years now. :cry: i will say it quites down once ive been driving for a little bit.. but i figure thats just because it has warmed up some

Have you checked your U-joints.

Haha, thats the dealers answer to everything. heck, if they could, they would say its normal for it not to start at certain times of the year. :lol:

that will be the first thing i check this weekend.. supposed to get up to 60 degrees so i am going to change the oil out in it.. just broke 60k on a 2002
