| Post subject: | T-Case Stuck in 4Hi |
Just what the title says. Ever since I bought the CRD in Sept. it's always had a difficult time shifting into AWD mode. Last few days have been rain slick, so I used the 4Full for a couple days. Seems now, when I shift back to 2wd it gets stuck in 4hi. 4AWD works better than ever, but now gets stuck in 4hi when going back to 2wd. Even grabed a wrench and forced the linkage as far back as possible and still took alot of back and forth side to side neutral reverse in both the t-case and tranny to finally get the thing to uncouple. No bind or stiffness in the shift lever. Lubed all that to make sure. Something seems wrong ion the t-case itself. I of course did a search, but this sites search function is terrible. Please help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |

The 242 / select trac transmission is controlled by a cable and a couple springs, are you sure it's stuck in 4-hi? Maybe it's just the 4x4 indicator switch is bad which would case the insturment cluster to display the wrong setting [while the mechanical linkage is still doing what it's supposed to] If you are stuck in 4-hi, the KJ's front tires should be hopping and scrubbing all over the place while you try to take a corner. |

The light indicates the exact position of the lever, but t-case remained in 4wd. I did get it to finally go into 2wd, but like I said, with alot of effort. |

Common problem with the 242 t-case since the shifter only activates checkballs that actually shift the t-case.Try changing the t-case fluid and use 4wd more often to help free up the stuck inards. |

also make sure all tires match including pressure and wear. any stress on the driveline will cause it to not shift. |
