Post subject:  How much flex does a KJ have?
Hello all, I'm trying to get an idea about what kind of flex these KJ's can do. In the last 5 years of wheeling I have never seen a KJ flex out. Heck I've only seen one on the trail and that was several years ago. I think it might have been USAFCOP back when he was in our club. Anyway My wife now has a KJ. I'm of course wanting to start playing with it like I have with my TJ. So what kind of flex are we talking about. I mention a RTI ramp just because it puts the playing field the same for all. I know that an RTI ramp doesn't amount to a "hill of beans" when it comes to being on the trail but I don't know of anyother way of getting an understanding of what they can do. I have looked at a lot of the pictures on our boards and they look nice but I still don't have a good idea.

As a side note does the Frankenlift actually work with the CRD? I was originally looking into getting the RK7 but after reading the posts I think I would rather drive over my foot. Does anyone have any experience with Jeepinal's custom a-arms. Looks like a nice way to get a good lift and increase the strength of the front end. Sorry for the long post

They do alright. There are tons of flexing pics in the pictures section (some on ramps). I know some other guys will chime in with their RTI scores, but here are a few pics from our last run to hold you over:

I am guessing you guys are disconnected up front in those pictures? My rear axle flexes well, but the front sucks. I have never removed the swaybars though.

lol, a solid axle cant flex with the sway bar on?!? And i cant even see the axles on that zj? does it have any axles? I dont think that zj is stock either? I could do that to a kj with that much money.

here is another POSER pic, if you want.

this was with short arms and it a 985 on a 23 degree ramp. Of course, I dont run into many ramps on the trail.

I wasn't saying that IFS is superior to solid axle or vice versa. I was referring to the WAY it is flexing, not how much. Keeping the tires straight up and down...that was my point. That can't be done with a solid axle (unless its broke). :lol:

Nobody got dissed as far as I know. We were just comparing apples and oranges. Throw a solid axle on a Kj and you get the same massive flex, but I think seeing the IFS flex is cool in its own right since you can keep more tire on the ground.

My 2005 Rennie ALL stock and with the rear swaybar attached scored a 382 @ Jeepfest. I have since removed the rear swaybar and I know i get more flex, but have not been anywhere that has a RTI ramp since.

I went 'wheelin with a Jeep YJ last weekend and we pulled up to this one spot on the trail that's notorious for flexing your rig out. My KJ with 2.0" Daystar spacers and Ranchos flexed WAY more than his YJ. He was very impressed with my KJ actually. In fact, I flexed the rear so much that the shock boot on the passenger side was fully stretched and almost got torn. :wink: I'm very VERY happy with the flex. Now...inner wheel well clearance in another issue.. :x

I've got 9.5" tires on, so they tuck right up inside my wheelwells, once I removed the liners. I'm going to have to do something about those flares when I get my next and wider size of tires.

Wow, how do you get that much flex! did you take the sway bar off front and rear. How did the front flex Calvin56. Ive never seem that much flex from the rear.

I've removed the sway bar. The reason I think I'm getting a good deal of flex back there is because I've removed the fenderwell linings, and got some extra room to stuff. I still have the original bumpstops in the back, I didn't add additional ones when I put the lift on since the tires aren't running into anything back there.

I've had my front sway bar off for a trail once, but it was a pain to mess with, so I haven't unhooked it again. I did have a little better performance when it was off.

I haven't made a point of getting any front flex pics yet. I'll have to do that, maybe I'll get some good ones at MOAB.

Mine actually droops a little more than that, same deal, I put Rubicon Arms w/ Superflex Joints on the back, so the sway bars had to come off... I needed to put longer bumpstops on, too...Nuked 2 sets of the cheapass fender flares before I got it just right...anyone have set of Cactus green ones they can spare ;)
