Just wanted to start a little thread for my liberty and what and how it changes as i own it. Bought in December 2008 with 63k miles bone stock, and i mean right down to the tires and i am not so sure the oil filter isn't the factory one as when i tried to change my oil the first time it was stuck on like it had been there for 63k. ![]() On the build sheet for my jeep it looks as though the only option i didn't get for the 03 Renegade was the heated seats and a Transmition skid plate (although i am not sure if any of them shipped with trany skid). The diff oil smelled horrible and was burnt really bad. ![]() ![]() I replaced the diff and transfer case lube with Royal Purple http://www.royalpurple.com/gear-oil.html. The motor oil was changed out for Mobile One 10-30. The trany just got regular replacement fluid. After driving it around for a while and taking it out wheeling a few times the changes i wanted to make started to get clearer. First every problem i had off road was ground clearance. The side steps or running boards, depending on what you call them, hung up on everything and ended up getting pushed into the rear tires. Off they came..now setting in a scrap pile. Also i didn't like the top heavy look the plastic rail covers gave the roof. It was just to much up here and made it look overly tall. They went next to the running boards. ![]() I pulled the stock paper air filter and threw in a KnN replacement filter to let her breath a little better. ![]() ![]() ![]() I might be juvenile or just a little old school but i like to hear my rigs. The motor, the exhaust even the tires on the road are all welcome sounds to my ears. So my second purchase was a Flowmaster 44 SOR. ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Still stock. The headlights and fog lights are bright enough for me, but i wouldn't mind the roof lights being a little brighter.....you know like 747 landing lights would be fine with me. ![]() |

That stuff smells bad coming out of the bottle when new, it is horrible after it gets burnt. Only 1 smell I've had worse than that, but I won't divulge. I have a question for anyone....what is the flywheel looking piece on the back of the ring gears? Never seen that before. |

Its called a tone ring. There is a sensor on top of the diff that tells the speed-o how fast your going and keeps those miles rolling on the odo. |

Well to be truthful i have never taken them apart to check the part numbers but i assume they are stock as this thing had little to nothing done to it, including maintenance it seems, when i bought it. But they could be replacements. I know they work well and after adjusting them out of the tree's and back to the road they are amazing. |

![]() even when fresh, the stuff has that.. nostril sting to it, i just about lost my lunch laying on my side on a creeper I know that feeling man!! I think i have either worn every car fluid or been burnt by them. ![]() ![]() Demolition Derbys and dirt track racing you get a lot of chances to have hot coolant or atf or oil or gear lube fly in your face. ![]() Since i started using Royal Purple gear lube i have yet to have that smell or really any burnt smell at all come from my rigs. My dad's ford went 6 years between changes and i thought it would be very nasty and smelly but it just doesn't have the same stuff in it as dyno oil. |

i think i'd miss that nostril sting, but i guess as long as it works and doesnt smell all sweeeet and flowery like ATF ![]() worst i had to deal with in the diesel industry was clutch jobs, every box truck / tractor would dump half a gallon or more of nasty black clutch dust all over you every time you pulled the clutch, and you'd get it everywhere because you had to monkey everything related to it just to get it out i do not miss bruised heels from kicking transmissions in either |

Woohoo the lift and shocks showed up today!! Everything looks good to install now. ![]() One side note after looking at the daystar lift i am amazed at the number of post i have seen about the preloading of the front springs. From posts about horrible ride to coil stacking it just amazes me because the difference is less than 1/2". If a 1/2 inch of preload makes any difference at all to ride quality i will be amazed. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
