Have a 3.7L 4x4. Been considering a diesel conversion in the future. I know all about the CRD, but what about other options, like the International 2.8's that have been swapped into almost everything (see link below) including Jeeps? Haven't heard of a Liberty swap. These engines can use stand alone management, so it seems like the possibilities are limitless. They aren't too huge, so should fit into the Liberty. Should be superior in strength and reliability to the CRD, especially given the EGR problems that killed the CRD. My idea is to completely tear out the 3.7L and all computer hardware and wiring and go to a diesel like this along with a new tranny, transfer case, etc., and its own computer hardware and wiring as required. Won't have to worry about compatibility with the factory set up then. Will also be doing a SFA conversion by then. I figure that with all the extra weight that the 4x4 mods are adding, the 3.7L will be sucking wind and gas, so when it wears out, the truck diesel should take care of this deficit and then some.

Any ideas?

Been looking into this a bit more. It seems this motor has no electronics. It's all mechanical and is built super strong. I don't know about you, but IMO electronics never seem to last and cost a lot of dollars and stress to work on, if you can. They make vehicles run more efficiently and better, but they also fill the pockets of the dealers at the same time and decrease the overall lifespan of a vehicle, not to mention making swaps a major challenge.

I've mentioned this in another thread, but the cummins 4bt is a great little motor, entirely mechanical, than can be had fairly cheaply.
