Ok, I think I have decided what the first thing I am going to put on my car is. I saw the $30 roof rack thing in the following thread:

http://www.lostjeeps.com/forum/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?t=32824

and think I am going to do this (adapted to the Renegade roof rails) and am going to install 2 Hella 500 lights on the front bar with a remote on/off switch. I just wanted to ask if anyone has used the pilot remote light controls and if anyone has taken off the roof rails to drill a hole to run power up to the top of the car? I am thinking about taking off the roof rail on the drivers side and drilling a hole there and running the wire through the new rail into the stock rail and through a hole in the plastic at then ends and then through a whole in the roof under the plastic to keep the weather out. Sound workable?

Or is there an easier way that will allow me to run power up there without any drilling?

open the door and remove the plastic cover that covers the side of the windshield and up to the front of the rack, run wires under that piece, tape wires down good, reinstall piece and have hidden wires down into the engine compartment

should work :?

Thanks, I'll have to look into that. I really don't want to drill if at all possible in case I need to go back to stock. Anybody else have any ideas?

1... Listen to Tommudd. It's easy, and doesnt require cutting, or anything to harm anything. :) :D

Ok I will for sure look at that as soon as I get home. Now for the problem I just found. The roof rails on the renegade have a diameter of 3.1847 inches if I did my math right, circumference appeared to be 7" when I measured it just now and I can't find a clamp on that will fit it. This may not work :?

In addition to what Tommudd suggests, you could use "Nice dust" wire cover. (I used this product extensively in the security industry for many years!) It is rectangular in profile, snaps shut and can be reopened ( to add more wiring) it's heat mouldable to a degree, can be painted, and come in various sizes and has 3M adhesive tape on the back. Run along side the vertical factory windshield moulding, makes a neat clean way of running wiring up to the roof of your KJ without drilling a hole in the sheet metal.

If you're gonna keep calling your Jeep a car, you'll need to do something about all the cats you're killing too.

i had the same problem. i wanted to use those rails/clamps but it wouldnt work with my roof rails. when the weather breaks i'm giong to go to a fence company and see what kind of clamps they have available.

Well I got the parts and have so far prepped everything and covered it in spray on truck bed liner to match the factory rails as closely as possible. If I have time today I am going to do the measurements and some of the drilling tonight. I ordered the new Hella lamps as well.

Although I don't have The "Pilot remote" switch on my KJ, they work alright!
Sometimes I have to hit the switch a couple of time to actually get the lights to turn on! But other than that, I should of just drilled a hole through the fire wall and just hard wired the extra lights.
