 Post subject: Aluminum fairlead
PostPosted: Sun Mar 01, 2009 8:23 pm
I'm trying to install a winch with rope and aluminum fairlead in my arb bumper. However, the aluminum fairlead does not center in the hole unless i drill new holes in the arb. Anyone else have this problem. I don't want to drill new holes. If i did it would weaken the mount and also the bolt would stick out right where the winch is. Do i need to buy a different fairlead to make this work?

So you didn't have any problems with those fairlead bolts hitting the winch base?

Honestly, tjkj2002 is the one that can answer that question. He drilled the holes and I’m assuming that he used the hardware that came with the Warn Fairlead. As seen in the photo above, I swapped the Warn for the aluminum fairlead which is specifically designed for synthetic rope. I don’t remember having to cut the bolts, but there is no clearance issues to speak of.

I had to space the winch out about a 1/8" to clear the bolts/nuts,nothing a few washers didn't take care off.I will be doing the same soon since I have new rope going on and that kicka$$ Armorology hawse fairlead.

i got it done. I did what tjkj did but instead i drilled into the winch plate and threaded it so that i didn't need a nut. Then i wouldn't need a spacer under the winch. It turned out there was enough room in there for a nut anyways but the bumper and winch plate is like half an inch thick so that should be good enough. thanks for your help.

2006KJ, do you have a picture of yours from on top? I'm trying to decide how i want to cover up those gaping holes in the top to keep snow and water out. I was thinking maybe plexi-glass.

Nevermind, i see that yours is open too.
