Post subject: | Front cv problem? |
My front driveline has acted up. Driving home Thursday sounded like my Front axke was ingaged but was not. Friday morn hit a small chuck hole and instantly started a revolving metal knock. When I braked or engaged 4 wheel drive metal knock became more quiet. Sound came from passenger side. Changed out pass half shaft with new one. Now loud knock is gone but sounds like original problem, can hear something rotating. Anybody have a similiar experience. I have been running 3.5 lift for last 32k miles. CJ3A |

Im kinda confused. You said youre having problems with the front drive shaft so you replaced the passenger side cv joint? ![]() Check out that front drive shaft first. How many miles are on the jeep? |

EXCUSE MY DYLEXIA . I meant axle shaft. ButI am not ruling out the front drive shaft. Need to check it out too. But dont know how replacing passenger half shaft would get rid of metal revolving clunking noise and replace it with softer out of balance noise. |

When you get time just remove the front drive shaft to see if the sound goes away. Mark a line on both companion flanges where they mate to the driveshaft before unbolting. I had that same sound years ago. Even the dealership mechanics thought it was a front wheel bearing going out. It turned out to be the front driveshaft. Removing it really isn't a big deal. |

Well when I went to check drivers side found loose lug nuts. Problem solved. Found new problem Ball joint boots are breaking up and they are only 1.5 years old. Anybody else have this happen? |

Are they the original ball joints or aftermarket? |
