Post subject:  Almost ordering a lift.... yes.... again

Alright, so I came to a realization I cant have the best, and also, I don't need the best. I talked to a few 4x4/jeep shops, talked to some friends, and my wife, and have a plan together. This is not the best lift, I know, and it is reusing some parts, but, its what I think I want, to save money, and to get me a pretty good ride. I figure if I can push 2 years out of this lift, it will be worth it, and I can upgrade then. No, I don't want the best today, I can get bronze today, and down the road, figure it out. So here is my plan.

I am planning on ordering a pair of skyjacker rear shocks on saturday, and later next week, a 2.5" daystar spacer kit. Now, the middle of the month, I am going to try and order a set of 235/85/16 KM2s. I will be reusing my stock front struts, and springs, even if they are worn and sagging :) So, how much trimming will I be doing to get those massive 32" tires in??

With sagging 7 year old coils and 7 year old struts you will need massive cutting to fit 235/85's.Stick with 245/75's and you might be okay, maybe, plan of cutting with 245/75's also. With those old coils your going to be lucky to get 1.5" of lift at most.I know a certian KJ that will be getting Frankinlifted next Tuesday that has the Daystar DD 2.5" kit in his '04 and he barely has 1" of lift, you couldn't put your pinky finger between his coils if you tried they are that worn out.He has Rancho struts at least.

If I did all ome hd springs, skyjacker rear shocks, and either skyjacker or rancho front struts, could I fit the tires I want?

501 had the Daystar lift on his stock shocks and springs and the same as what TJKJ is saying his coils almost touched each other sitting still.

What everyone has been trying to tell you is to wait and do it right, you are going to end up with a lift you don't like the way it rides, tires that are going to rub like mad and basically screw up a great vehicle. Plus going to that size tire gas mileage and power are out the window.

Everyones just trying to help post after post after post
And remember we are not making any money off of your lift, the dealers are and will say anything to sell you a lift and then paid to put it on!

I keep forgetting why I need ome I guess. So can I use my stock struts? I don't care about comfort here, never did. Just want it good, and big tires. So, I know I need ome and shocks, but can I survive with stock struts?

why such big tires? You need to rethink why you are lifting your KJ. It's not only about the looks but how it performs and lasts. Listen to these guys and stop trying to talk them into your lift ideas. Save up and do it right. what is the rush? I have waited a year and finally I am about to order my OME lift.

Next it's someone else's turn,
I give up

I think you understand about taking pictures

so would you buy a 1200 dollar camera and use the cheapest film you could buy in it, NO
You have 6 or 7 year old shocks in the front, they are JUNK/WORN OUT/ TOAST/ put in new springs and you ruin them because you are too cheap to replace the shocks

OK like I said we have tried, we have all been where you are
Get some 245-70-16s for now, and save some money back each month and do it right

I'm not trying to talk them into my lift, I'm trying to pick my lift. And I have been almost a year waiting now. I'm not getting into the rush reasons, they are for a different thread. Just want to know about my struts, then I can order this stuff already. I'm gonna go OME, gonna go with new shocks, just want to know about my struts LOL

You may not care about comfort but worn out struts/shocks will severly effect how your vehicle drives and responds to your commands. If you have to do a emergency lane change with new coils and old/worn struts/shocks it will be a very scary ride and could be fatal.Remember that the strut/coil controls the the compression and rebound of the coils, whitout them you would just bounce out of control off the road.OEM struts/shocks are designed to wear out at about 36,000 miles, there's a reason for that,to make you spend more money hopefully at the dealership. You'd be amazed at the ride and control a new set of Rancho or OME struts/shocks with new OME coils will feel,it will be 100%+ better then OEM.

But it's your money and your KJ so I will not say anymore then this......................

Thank god you live about 2000 miles from me,don't want to get run off the road when you come bouncing out of control down the same road  .

Okay how long does it take to save up $800 for new coils, struts, shocks, and extended bumpstops? Not being mean just really want to know.I know other things in life are more important but when I want something I eat Ramon noodles for months to save for it,I don't settle for 2nd best.

I retract my last comment, missed this. I don't want to do them cause I want the extra cash for tires.

X2. I lowered my thermostat in my house, stopped eating out, started turning off lights and unplugging appliances, started making less unnecessary trips to save on fuel, sold stuff on eBay, and whole bunch of other things to help cut costs and save money. We’ve probably saved over $200 a month just in eating out. Your vehicle is an investment, so do it right the first time.
