The pics below are from a '04 KJ's CV's.Many want to know how and where you need to cut them to allow for greater articulation.The inner cup is the one that get's cut.We tried cutting the inner cup,since it's hardened heat treated steel it would have ended up costing over $300 to machine 3/8" off of each cup($600 total).For that money might as well buy the already machined JE Reel CV's that are done right with a new internal groove machined into to keep the inner CV from falling apart. The outer CV,no material to cut off without the joint falling apart. ![]() ![]() The inner CV,note the rib that has a yellow line on it,that is 3/8" to that ridge. ![]() A look at how much that 3/8" missing(this cup is not cut)would hinder clamping the boot on. ![]() The pic below shows the inside of the inner cup,the blue arrows show the internal clip groove,that clip prevents the inner joint from falling out of the cup and that groove would be cut off with the 3/8" removal. ![]() The pic below you can see the internal clip that holds the inner CV in. ![]() Please if you do not have anything constructive to say or add please refrain from posting junk comments please ![]() |

ahhhhhhhhh the sweet sweet innards of the cv...reminds me of replacing the inner CV boot. What a fun day that was. never had my balls fall out though ![]() |

this is what the inside of my new CV looked like.. i took it apart and had the inside of it tapered (not the face.. the inside angled hunks) so that when at full droop the shaft wouldnt have anything to bind on.. plus it would maintain the strength with the outer face being full length... Thought it was worth a try. ![]() these edges were the i ones i had tapered in to be a much much less extreme angle ![]() |

Sorry 2006 KJ you did not gain any clearance by the machining you did on the outer CV's since the CV shaft comes nowhere close to the tapered face of outer CV cup.Good Idea but sadly it doesn't do anything besides making the boot clamp area smaller. |

Does one side wear more than the other? (ie. passenger or drivers side). If so maybe you only have to machine one side. Or are they both the same. |

The drivers side is shorter,not much shorter on a 3.7 KJ but alot shorter on a CRD.Shorter shaft = greater angles to achieve the same range of motion then a longer shaft.
