Post subject:  Limited Slips front/rear.....or.....Rear Locker Only

As the CRD is in the shop awaiting for a new D30a, I was told that because I accepted the warranty work, I have to return the diff to stock open. They are going the extra mile even allowing the warranty to cover the whole thing, and will just leave it open until warranty runs out. This leads me to a bit of a quandary. The warranty ends in about 20K miles and should I keep what I have and go back to a DTT when it's done, or lock the rear right now and leave it alone??? Out of shear curiosity, what performs better out on the trails? LSD's f/r or just a rear locker only? Only experience I have is open/open or fully locked, and didn't get enough on-the-trail experience with my CRD setup to get a good idea of performance before it grenaded.

I'm running F/R DTT's - but I don't know anyone else running them on the rear.

I've gone to Moab twice and haven't had any problems attributable to the limited slip

(Driver error - yes, Transfer case - yes - no problems with the TrueTracs)

there is one other member on herer that has a DTT in the rear that I know of, but I cant think of their name. I have the DTT front and DL rear and I love it, it is an amazing set-up.

You're asking if it's better to have a locker in the rear or 2 limited slips f/r? I would think it would depend on wheeling conditions. But really who knows. I think jsc7002's setup would be sweet. If you put a locker in the rear now, you could always upgrade to a lsd in the front later.

why not a locker in both ends?

If the post title is the only option, lock the rear.

Yeh, it really is the only option right now. I will either put another DTT back in the front and just be more carefull knowing it would never get warrantied again, or swap out the OEM trac-lock and get a full Detroit soft locker. Had one in the ol' Cherokee that also had the 8.25 and loved it!!!

I'm running the detroit locker in the rear of mine, and I LOVE it.

I'm pretty sure a rear Detroit Locker is the route I'm gonna take. Then, as the CRD's warranty ends, DTT the front and be done with it!!!!! Sure wish I could keep the one thats in there now, or at least have them give it to me to have as a spare, even if the shop is not allowed to reinstall it.

What? They are going to keep your old lsd? What are they going to use that for? They probably will just chuck it. I would be checking the dumpsters there every day.

They said, cause of warranty, Chrysler has the dealer retain all replaced original parts in case a dispute arises or an investigation is needed. Don't know how long they will hold them for, but seriously doubt it's more than 30-60days. I'm gonna talk to the mechanic directly who gets assigned the job and see if he could help me out some how.

Where is your stock carrier you took out when you installed the DTT? Give it to them and get back your DTT.
