Post subject: | Handbrake / emergency brake |
Hi, I have a 2006 KJ and the hand brake has never really worked well from the factory. I had the rear brakes replaced at the dealer about 12 months ago and since then it has not worked at all. I know I could take it back to them to try and fix it, but my confidence in them is zero. How do I adjust the e brake on the 2006 models? I know that you have to take off the rotor etc to get access to the shoes inside the rear drum. Once the wheel and rotor is off should the drum just slide off (with a bit of presuation?) If it is just loose, how do I make the adjustment? I guess the other option is the drum shoes are worn. But as it has never really worked I dont know why there would be wear on something that has never been used. Thanks |

I don't know if they still adjust in this manner but try driving backwards and hitting the brake a few times and see if it gets any better if the cable is slack there's a e-brake adjustment thread about how to tighten the ebrake tensioner from inside the vehicle console around here somewhere |

no the 06 has 4 discs, but the rears have a drum style e brake on the inside of the rotor. I should have been more specific. Cheers |

i'd bet they adjust by drivin backwards and hittin the brakes, mine never adust unless i make them because when im backing out of somewhere I'm usually going slow and easy to avoid backing OVER PEOPLE I Mean wtf mopar.. ![]() give it a try in a church parkin lot or somethin, 2 or 3 times should set it up good, if not pull the console tray out of your console, its got like 5 screws quick and easy and poke the wire that attaches to the e-brake if it goes more than like an inch or two it's just slack and needs tightening |

foot pedal hehe ya don't have to slam on brakes or nothin, just mash them good like you're deliberatley trying to make someone spill their drink all over their lap ![]() i know i apparently never mash my brakes hard enough backing up for them to adjust |
