Post subject:  Jeep Jamborees and LOST KJ's for 2006

As many of you know, I am very pro Jeep Jamboree USA. I'm also an advocate of JeepTales.com because I think it's a great idea. (I've got a big mouth, so I try to put it to good use whenever possible.)

Now hear me out...

I'm coordinating with JeepTales and JJUSA to see when I'll be at which event in the Northeast. I'd LOVE to get more LOST KJ's out there! I'll definitely be attending the Poconosrun on June 2-4, and may also make the Pine Barrens(May 19-21) and Paragon(Sep 8-10) runs.

There are several KJ's out there who've still never been off road! They get the lifts, tires, skids, etc, but have done nothing more than play in illegal construction sites and stuff. The Jamborees are a GREAT way to dive in. This year they are offering a lower cost packagethat excludes meals, for those on a budget.

Anyway, check it out. Let me know if you're thinking about going to one of the above events. I'll be there with the digital camcorder and camera in hand. I'm getting good with those things. Page 24 of their new brochure (which came direclty from Jeep this year, BTW) features a shot of a family in a white CJ from the back. I took that picture.

So if YOU want to be featured in the next JJUSA brochure that goes out to every Jeeper on the planet, COME ON OUT and look for the LOST Khaki KJ with the painted ARB!

See you on the trail.

PS I'm not related to JJUSA or Jeep or JeepTales in any way beyond passing along what I think is a GREAT way to have fun with our LOST Jeeps. Afterall, that's what it's all about, right?

Adam, dont take this the wrong way, but what makes the JJ worth so much money? Besides the rides, I assume there are some events or something? I see the lower priced package, was the food they supply that good? I was gung ho to go on my first one, but then I saw the cost and started realizing that for the price of bringing the family, I could get a lot of mods to enjoy monthly on a LOST run instead of one JJ?

I've seen your videos and jeeptales site and it looks like a lot of fun, but nothing really stands out to make it much more than a monthly club run? Regardless, I'm trying to make it to one of them in the NE (prob poconos or Pine Barrens) just to see for myself-but maybe just with the older son and we'll bring our own grub.

Ya know, everyone asks that because it does get pricey. (You saw the 4 for 3 discount, right?).

I've been to 3 Jam's so far. This is what I've noticed:

1) the crowd is VERY diverse, ranging from the rock-crawling red-necks in insanely built machines, to rock-crawling red-neck wannabees that normally wear a suit during the week (guilty as charged  ). The guys with dirt under their fingernails from daily or just weekend wrenching, to the guys with worn out Gold Cards driving brand new Rubicons with all the best money can buy. I've seen grandparents out to have some fun; I've seen newly licensed kids with parents out to learn some skills.

The bottom line on people, is everyone comes together and shares the excitement that's so real you can taste it.

2) The size of the event. With about 120 Jeeps, it's a serious crowd. At the Catskills run last year, the town rolled out the red carpet and it was nice. You wanna get waived at? DRIVE A JEEP WITH A JAMBOREE STICKER ON THE WINDSHIELD DURING A JAMBOREE WEEKEND!

3) The events on friday night are fun. sometimes a Jeep rodeo; sometimes a monster truck type ride over a Neon (that was fun).

4) The evenings in the bar are great. Watching the day's videos is fun (bring your patch cables!). And telling those Jeep Tales at dinner is great.

5) Food. It's pretty good. Some of it was quite good. I imagine that depends a lot on the event, but they do seem to try to give you your money's worth there.

6) I particularly enjoy the terrain I've been on. Two of the three Jam's I've done was on private land, so you can't explore these areas outside of this event. I like to GO places. That's what I hate about Paragon - you just drive around a park (albeit a huge one) all day. Exploring and driving through deep woods for hours, passing ancient indian burial grounds (Mohawk Trail) and the like, is cool. Eating lunch in a stream with 20 of your newly aquired friends is fun.

So overall, yes, it's pricey. But, I think every Jeep owner who thinks of his or her Jeep as a JEEP and not an SUV aught to do at least one Jam.

Look, I don't know about you, but I never really knew what a Jeep Jamboree was. But for years, I noticed those decals on some Jeeps around the country. I knew that one day, I'd like to find out. So I did and it was a blast.

Finally, the first event I went to was at the Mohawk Trail in Charlement, MA. They lost the event since then. But this trip was the first time my (then 4 year old) son and I went away together - just the two of us. We stayed in a B&B together. We drove up and spent nearly every minute together. We shared PB&J that my wife packed for us in the room late thursday night when we got up too late for dinner. We peed in the woods together.

We built some great memories that will last a lifetime. Looking back, I've long since forgotten the money and remember only the fun times. It's that kind of enthusiasm that I want others to experience.

Try it, you'll like it. :D

sounds good. I'm not sure how that event will compare to the others I've been on because it's at Paragon and not in some vast, open space. but one way to find out!

Adam, I won't be attending any of the Jamborees you mentioned but my wife and I are looking at the 2nd Texas Spur. I'll just happen to be in the neighborhood with a little extra cash during that time. My brother goes to Jamborees all the time (you may have seen him on the Mohawk Trail Jamboree in a red Rubicon when 4WD&SUV was there) and swears by them. He says he learns more in a single weekend at a Jam then in 3 months of 'wheeling with his local club. The prizes at the raffle are extrodinary and it's just some all around fun.

KJ-BOL and I will be doing French Lick, IN in the fall, which is a classic one. They have trails you can't access without Jamboree - they close them to vehicles the rest of the year.

LOST Midwest, as a club (most of us probably) will be doing Camp Jeep in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin as well as it's only 100 miles away. I will be attempting to set us up with a banner and a meeting area there.

I was thinking about doing the Pocono's or Bradford. I'm not going to goto Paragon, since we can go there year round, and for the money Jeep want's, I'm not spending that to goto Paragon. Has anyone been to both Pocono's and Bradford want to chime in on which one is "better"? Or is there a better one within a few hundred miles of PA???

I was at Poconos and Catskills. Not Bradford unfortunately.

Go to Poconos cause I'll be there! ;-)

I REALLY liked Catskills. So you can do that one too since it's in the fall. I'm very annoyed that they set that one on the Jewish holidays so I can't go to it again.

Poconos has some tough rock trails! Check out the pics here:

Also, my Jeep Movie was shot on location there. (Don't I sound like a Hollywood type?)

The Canadian site has just been updated with the 2006 dates:

http://www.jeepjamboreecanada.com/news.html

No Jamboree in Alberta this year, due to landowner issues I believe. Apparently the host club (ECO) will spend the year scouting a new location.

I'm not sure yet if I'll be around. I'm planning a trip up to Inuvik sometime this coming summer. I want to get in there and back between the bugs and the blizzards, which is around the end of August sometime...Are you heading to Penticton for sure?
