Need a real jack

After landing the Liberty on a pine stump for the second time, jacking the body up to put materials under the wheels has taken its toll on the jack. It will no longer work. Even the lung wrench broke.

I know a lift would probably help, but that is not going to help replace the jack. Who here uses the hijackers and is there anything I need to know about these? How do they store in a '06 Liberty?

And I can use these as a come-along, right??

i had a hi-lift when i had a cheyenne and used it for everything including uprooting stumps, lifting my truck off of trees (trees.. not stumps, trees.. heh)

and as a "come-along type winch" If i remember right i had a 52"

I know NorthernTool carries them in both the farm jack and hi-lift flavors, hi-lift is better imo, although I'm not sure what the real difference is

perhaps coke vs. pepsi

It may be possible to stick it between the space between the rear seats going long-ways with your jeep, it will take up some cargo space in the rear though

most people seem to mount them on the rear door or on the roof, I have a bigred with jackstands in the moulded plastic carry case in the cargo area of my jeep though it would hardly be good for offroad lifting

OOOFF! how tight of a fit was it to get it litterally under the back seat?

I like that rear door mount you made, is that a stock tire hung up there with it?

I would think that if you had larger tires that it would end up shoving it against the door, but I'd bet theres a way to solve that through flipping the carrier upside down or something

Not a stock tire, it is a BFG TA/KO 245/75/R16 with a spare tire spacer from Rocky-Road that allows the tailgate glass to open with out hitting the oversized tire (spacer pushes the rim out another 2" and down a little). This spare tire spacer also provides the room to mount the jack. This set up is not possible with the stock 7"wide 5.5" backspace rim unless you use a spare tire spacer. However I know inc was using a very similiar set up with no spare tire spacer, and I believe a 4" backspace steel rim.

And as for the under the back seat location, it actually wasn't that hard to get it in there. I was considering using a 3' length of PVC pipe secured under the seats to then feed the jack into as a mount.

also, any interior location, or mounting it horizontal even outside the vehicle limits the jack to 48" max, and at 48" it is a very tight squeeze to fit it anywhere inside the vehicle.

Under the back seat is where i had mine and it works great. Only a 48" or smaller will work there and you can not fold the seats down as much as before. I took the back seat out and am going to build a storage area there instead.

Now what I am not clear on is how that attached to the Liberty to jack it up. Can someone give me a clue there?

I have thought about purchasing one and installing it via:
1. taking off the backdoor skin
2. making brackets that attach to the backdoor OR somewhere in there
3. cut up the door skin and reinstall to fit the hi-lift OR just leave the door skin off...

You will have to go with a shorter than 48" jack for it to fit on the inside of the tailgate, or buy a 48" and cut it down to fit.

I jack mine up from the rock rails, not sure where else you possibly could, ie no rock rails, no hi-lift jack.

Rockrails - or the ARB - otherwise you need PnxToad's mod - and I'm not sure I can find it - I'll add a link if I do.

I doubt my stock jack would do much good on the trails and would like to get a 48" Hi-Lift. I could carry it on my roof rack along with a small shovel.

But just how do you lift a Libby with a Hi-Lift if you don't have steel bumpers? Has anybody used a Hi-Lift Mate?

My buddy actually did. He did have to put blocks under the control arm and remove the jack though. Still, it got us back home without too much bother.
