OME Lift in the Mail, When to Get Alignment

Well I just got off the phone with Dirk at DPG, he was as nice as everyone says. I'm installing OME 790/NS131 front, 948/N132 in the rear. Do I require anything else to complete this package, I'm hoping to lift enough to clear 245/75R16 MT/R's with minimal lift??? I know, sounds backwards, but my kids like to climb in Mama's Jeep, so I can't get crazy. Besides, it is a CRD... after I get all these parts on it might resemble a real 4x4.

My real question is get the alignment right away, or wait a few days for the suspension to settle? I am not afraid to run the old stock tires a few days before the alignment is done, I just want it done before the new tires go on. Thoughts???

I am pretty sure the kids would have grown into a larger lift in no time;)

I did my alignment pretty much immediately after the lift, the lift combined with the larger tires will throw the alignment off quite a bit. I bounced the hell out of the jeep to make sure everything was tight, drove about 30km to the shop, had the alignment done.

True, but it is a CRD and I'm wanting to balance the CV angles with the need for ground clearance. I should get a true 2 inches in lift the right way from the OME coils I chose. I plan to run this thing across the African continent in the future, so I want parts that work well together.

Sounds like you did what I planned on doing prior to alignment. I figured a few bumps would help get everything settled in.

the cv angles are actually better on crd. it is the rubbing on the boot during install that is an issue. if you can avoid doing that, and dont have much contact at full droop on the drivers side- then you are good.

I had the shop that installed my lift do the alignment. Gotta bring it back in after it settles to make some tweeks but overall things are great. I got a gas engine though.

ThunderbirdJunkie agrees with the above.

Get your OME lift installed, align it immediately, give it 2,000 miles of HARD daily driving to settle.

Granted, your definition of hard daily driving and ThunderbirdJunkie's may differ...

Tom, I'm hoping to ship the KJ out in the next few months, then get the family in place this summer. There is some politics involved with where we will be living, so still have to iron that out. Regardless, as a security liaison I will be "required" (twist my arm) to travel the continent. I'll have the CRD ready well before the powers that be can get my assignment worked out...

Am I crazy to take my KJ, I love the little bugger... I hope it will hope up under the harsh conditions!

Thanks for the inputs on the alignment, hope it was as good as the advice to use DPG. I'm thinking initial alignment, some daily Thunderbird type driving (hard to find in NY, maybe just let my wife go pothole hunting), then a follow up to check everything before she goes on the slow boat to Pretoria... Of course I'll be underneath pretty much daily modifying the factory skids, adding armor etc... before it leaves
